TCDD will carry the historical Suadiye station building, which was idle with the opening of Marmaray, by 5 meters. Koymen, Head of the Chamber of Architects Büyükkent Branch, emphasized that the fate of the historical building is uncertain.

The General Directorate of the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), affiliated to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, will carry the historical Suadiye Station building in Istanbul 5 meters. Within the scope of the high-speed train project, the Haydarpaşa-Gebze suburban line was stopped on June 19, 2013, and the reopening of the line took place in 2019, six years later. However, the historical stations on the railway were disabled on the grounds that they were not suitable for the new project.

According to the news of İsmail ARI from BİLGÜN; One of the idle station buildings was the registered historical Suadiye Station building, which is estimated to have been built in 1910. According to the information in the Public Procurement Bulletin, TCDD held a tender on July 18 to restore this historical building. Cagin Construction, which submitted a bid of 2 million 490 thousand TL, won the tender.

In the tender dossier, “As a result of putting the suburban line platform in the middle of the line, the historical building has become unable to meet the need and has remained idle. The old platform in front of the building has been removed. The elevation of the new train line has risen and the building is lower than the line. Since the number of train lines passing in front of the building increased to three and the suburban line platform coincided with the front of the building, the building was approached too much. The Station Building, which is currently located at a distance of approximately 20-30 centimeters at the edge of the line, will be moved backwards by approximately 5 meters.

Esin Köymen, Head of TMMOB Chamber of Architects Büyükkent Branch, in her assessment to BirGün, said, “The purpose of the building, namely its function, is not explained in the tender file. These historical buildings should be open to the local people and should remain in the public domain. We do not know whether they will rent out a restaurant or sell it after they move. Why was the train track passed 20-30 centimeters from this historical building? The relocation of the building is a result of these unscheduled, unplanned works.”
