'Hidden Paradise' Trip for the Elderly

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality started the summer trips organized for the third time this year in order for citizens aged 65 and over to see and get to know the historical, natural, cultural and touristic places of the districts. The first address of the tours in 2022 was Ayvacık, which is likened to a hidden paradise with its natural beauties. After touring the natural wonder of the district, the elderly people who took a cruise on the ship watched the unique view.

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, which has become an example with its work in elderly and disabled care services, organizes traditional district summer trips. This year's trips include 65 elderly citizens 250 and over who are married or live alone and have no economic means. Aiming to contribute to their activation and socialization, Social Services Department Elderly and Disabled Services Branch Directorate chose Ayvacık, which stands out with its forests surrounding the dam lake, for the first district trip of the year. Secondly, tours to Vezirköprü district, which is famous for Şahinkaya Canyon, will continue with Akdağ Ski Center, Natural Ladik Lake and Ladik with Ambarköy Open Air Museum. Afterwards, the elderly will visit the Kızılırmak Bird Sanctuary in Ondokuz Mayıs, and visit Batıpark, Doğupark and museums in the city center.

40 elderly citizens, who were taken from their homes by private vehicles affiliated to the directorate, gathered in the Nation's Garden in the morning. He was taken to the town of Ayvacık, 70 km away, by the bus of the metropolitan municipality, and visited the district after lunch at the Ayvacık Social Facilities. Citizens watching the nature on Eynel Bridge toured the dam lake with the ship Samsunum-2. After a tiring and enjoyable day, the elderly people, who took lots of souvenir photos and enjoyed the scenery, were released back to their homes on the floating ship. At the end of the trip, he expressed his happiness and thanked the Metropolitan Municipality.

Providing information about the event, Social Services Department Elderly and Disabled Services Branch Manager Emrah Baş said that trips have become an important activity for the elderly. Baş said, “As the metropolitan municipality, we are trying to support our elderly people who cannot leave their homes, cannot communicate culturally and socially, and have socialization problems. We ensure that they have a good time by mingling without tiring themselves too much. There are people who get on the ship for the first time in their lives, and get out of their neighborhood for the first time. We made the first trip of this year to Ayvacık district. They were more than satisfied. Their admiration and excitement made us happy as well. Our sightseeing tours will continue at regular intervals.” He used his expressions.
