Professional swimmers swam in the cool waters of Nemrut Crater Lake, Turkey's largest crater lake, on the last day of the “Van Sea Swimming Festival” organized for the first time this year by the Van Metropolitan Municipality.
Van Sea Swimming Festival, organized by the Metropolitan Municipality in order to promote Van Lake and increase the interest of local and foreign tourists in the city, started with a concert and camp held on 16 July. Many provinces of Turkey and foreign countries also participated in the festival, which was held every day at a different point of Lake Van and lasted for 8 days.
The last leg of the festival was held at Nemrut Crater Lake, Turkey's largest crater lake, at an altitude of 2, located in the Tatvan district of Bitlis. Athletes who came to Crater Lake in the morning with vehicles belonging to the Metropolitan Municipality entered the lake under security measures. Swimmers swimming from one end of the lake to the other created colorful images in the azure waters.
Hamide Yılmaz stated that she participated in all stages of the 8-day festival, “Lake Van is an incredibly beautiful place. I went to all the islands with the event. All the islands were beautiful. Today we came to Nemrut Crater Lake. Swimming in the crater lake made me incredibly excited. I liked it a lot, even though the water was cold. I felt like I was swimming in a huge pool. The festival was perfect in every sense. I am very grateful to those who contributed.”
