  • It will be investigated whether Turkey and Azerbaijan are using foreign terrorist fighters to join Azerbaijan's offensive.

US House of Representatives step to block F-16 sales to Turkey

The aforementioned bill presented by Frank Pallone prohibits the export of new F-16 warplanes and F-16 modernization kits to Turkey. In this context, the bill forbids the sale of F-16s to Turkey unless it provides a guarantee to the President of the United States that it serves the national interest and that Greek airspace will not be violated. In this context, the bill was passed in the House of Representatives with 179 yes votes against 244 no votes.

The vote of the bill was delayed in the past few days due to the request to record the vote. In the voting held on 14 July 2022, all members who voted were registered. As quoted by Defense Industry researcher Arda Mevlütoğlu, the bill will enter the NDAA 2023 draft.

The NDAA has drafts prepared by the House of Representatives and the Senate. In this context, Mevlütoğlu states that the NDAA's were combined in a mixed commission, turned into a single draft and submitted to the approval of the President, and that the President still has the veto right.
