Stating that they have opened a library for adults as well as children and young people, İmamoğlu said, “I have loved libraries throughout my life. I think libraries and books add a lot to me. If we want to provide a good future for our children and young people, we must generously offer them such places. If we do this; we prepare a future with high self-confidence, character, fair, brave and very talented. In that future, no one will be deceived, deceived. In such a future, a productive and truly special generation will serve this country both on behalf of its own country and on behalf of the world.”

“WORKS THAT CANNOT BE MEASURED IN MONEY…”

Emphasizing that they aim to improve the quality of life of the city and provide fair opportunities to the citizens, İmamoğlu said, "It is our duty to contribute to their right to equality by generously offering whatever is related to education, health and livelihood within this equality of opportunity." Saying, “We offer an information pool that cannot be measured with money, for the service of our citizens,” İmamoğlu said, “Do you know why it cannot be measured with money? Imagine that a child, a daughter or a son who come here and study will find a vaccine or a cure for an epidemic that will save the world in 20-30 years. Is this possible? Possible. Or, after a certain period of time, they make such inventions and such beautiful works that they add such great wealth to our country that none of us can even guess. That's why these pools of information, these libraries and educational areas have no monetary value. Therefore, we will continue on this path clearly," he said.

Reminding that he opened a library bearing the name of Yaşar Kemal, the veteran of Turkish literature, in Beylikdüzü during the mayoralty of the district, İmamoğlu said, “If we say that it is the strongest pen in Turkish literature, it is a place. The existence of such a special person in this land is a source of pride. The whole world knows. He is a special person who brought 'İnce Memed', 'Yer Demir Gök Bakır', 'Yusufçuk Yusuf' and 'Çakırcalı Efe' to our literature. We will definitely commemorate our poets and writers who have left their mark on the literary history of our country in our libraries, which are going to 50 years old, and we will continue to put such names in these places in order to teach their value and their names to the new generation.”

FEATURES OF THE NEW GENERATION LIBRARY

Indicating that Yaşar Kemal Library is the 15th library they have put into service in line with their new generation library vision, İmamoğlu noted that the facility has 6 floors. Expressing that the library will serve the people of Istanbul with a total capacity of 1.774 people on an area of ​​400 square meters, İmamoğlu said, “Our library has a huge collection of 20.000 works. There are many kinds of books from history to literature, from political science to philosophy, from art to informatics, from cultural heritage to children's books. We call it a new generation library because it will also serve as a cultural facility. It will host many events such as creative writing workshops, writer-reader meetings, cartoon and illustration workshops, scenario workshops, video art studies and informatics workshops. In addition to these, study programs will be created that students can attend during the preparation period for the exams. Our people will be able to benefit from the loan services of all libraries affiliated to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Cultural Heritage, Library and Museums Directorate, especially the Yaşar Kemal Library.

Speaking at the ceremony, IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat also shared the information that they have opened 36 libraries since they took office and that they will increase this number to 50 by the end of the year. İmamoğlu and the accompanying delegation opened the Yaşar Kemal Library with the children.
