On July 10, 2022, due to heavy rains in Istanbul, the victims of the floods in the Esenyurt district were given a cash aid of 7 thousand liras, within the framework of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Social Assistance Regulation. IMM, which wants to eliminate the grievances of the citizens as soon as possible, started to provide cash support to the injured citizens, despite the official holiday. The social investigations in the households that IMM Social Services started on the day of the flood and continued in 22 districts have been completed. Payments were made to 27 families who applied to Edirnekapı Social Services Directorate with their documents. Document entries were provided for a total of 125 families to be provided with cash support.

What was done?

On July 10, when the heavy rain started, a team of 100 people working in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Social Services Directorate actively worked in the field. 22 addresses were visited in 236 districts across Istanbul, especially in Esenyurt district. The first social surveys were carried out at 218 addresses, excluding citizens who were not at home. On July 11, 190 citizens were interviewed one-on-one to identify their needs and explain the documents required to receive financial aid. On 12 July, a social survey was conducted in 77 households. The number of households whose social examination was completed on 13 July reached 44. In addition, economic support was provided to 27 families who received a firefighting report and completed the necessary documents.

While the inter-institutional cooperation on the completion of the missing documents continues, a total of 125 citizens entered documents in order to receive economic support as soon as possible.

Aids other than economic support

Citizens whose houses were damaged due to floods were placed in Esenyurt Mahir İz dormitory. Upon the requests of the citizens placed here; 168 packages of diapers, 150 packages of wet wipes, 150 packages of underwear, socks, shampoo, combs, 100 toys, 120 packages of chocolate were distributed.

Professional staff of the Social Services Directorate stated that they can provide free support to Istanbul residents who will need psychological support during field investigations.

Social services personnel working during the holiday were among the first teams to enter the disaster area by displaying an understanding beyond the general reflex.

The solidarity shown by the people of Istanbul with the victims of the floods set an example.
