UITP Bus Committee Meeting Ended

The Bus Committee meeting of the International Union of Public Transport (UITP), which is the largest superstructure in the world in the field of public transport and was founded in 1885, was hosted by IETT in Istanbul. After the 25-day meeting attended by 50 senior executives from 3 different countries, the participants expressed their admiration for Istanbul and thanked IETT officials for the organization.

The 112th Bus Committee meeting was held in Istanbul on 12-13-14 June. IETT hosted about 50 UITP Bus Committee members, including Uruguay, Japan, Luxembourg, Italy, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Serbia, Germany, Azerbaijan, Belgium, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Spain, Czech Republic, Netherlands.

The committee members, who came together in the morning working groups, made field visits in the afternoons. On 12 June, a nostalgic tram and tunnel presentation and a touristic trip to the historical peninsula were held. The committee meeting, which started with IETT introductory presentation by İETT Deputy General Manager İrfan Demet on 13 June, continued with a technical trip to İETT Edirnekapı Metrobus garage and an intercontinental Metrobus trip in the afternoon. The meeting, which continued on 14 June, ended with the electrical transformation technical tour in the Islands.

In the meetings of the committee held before noon, issues such as the negative effects of increasing energy costs around the world on the public transportation system, electric vehicles and battery technologies, making garages suitable for electric vehicles, the development of the Metrobus system and its effects on public transportation, line optimizations, Covid effects on public transportation were discussed.

Committee members shared their observations and evaluations after receiving detailed information about the public transportation system in Istanbul during the meetings. Participants stated that the mega city Istanbul plays an important role in bus transportation in the world, the management process of the Metrobus system sets an example and the transformation in the Islands is a successful example in terms of sustainable transportation.
Emphasizing that the whole process was managed very successfully at the end of the meetings, the Chairman and members of the Committee thanked IETT and expressed their satisfaction.
