The countdown has begun for the Tour de France, which is considered the most prestigious bicycle race in the world. Continental, one of the main sponsors of the race, which will start on July 1, 2022 in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, will support the official vehicles at the event with PremiumContact 6 and EcoContact 6 Q tires. Tires produced by Continental using recycled PET bottles will also be used on the tour for the first time this year. Continental, one of the tour's five main sponsors since 2019, announced that it has extended its longstanding partnership and sponsorship until 2027.

The world's largest cycling race, the Tour de France, will begin on July 1, 2022, with an official 13-kilometer tour in Copenhagen. The event will once again be accompanied by ŠKODA official vehicles from Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), the organizer of the race. The tire supporter of the official vehicles will be Continental, one of the sponsors of the organization. Prior to the tour, Continental announced that it has extended its main sponsorship until 2027. This year's tour will feature Continental PremiumContact 6 and EcoContact 6 Q tires made from recycled PET bottles for the first time.

Enno Straten, Head of Strategy, Analytics and Marketing, EMEA, Continental Tire Business, said: “We support the further sustainability goals of the Tour de France. That's why the tour's vehicles will use the latest and most sustainable tires Continental can currently offer.”

ContiRe.Tex technology brings sustainability to the race

The tires of the vehicles accompanying the tour include ContiRe.Tex technology, which Continental first introduced in August 2021. The polyester thread used in the body, which is the carrier frame of a tire, is produced from recycled PET bottles without any intermediate chemical steps. Each set of tires Continental supplies for this year's tour contains approximately 40 polyester made from PET bottles.

Continental aims to be the most advanced and innovative tire company in terms of ecological and social responsibility by 2030. “We are proud to offer a new sustainable solution to the premium tire world with ContiRe.Tex technology. This solution is also used successfully in the Extreme E series and will soon be included in our series production,” says Enno Straten. That's why they need to trust the performance of the tires. We believe our premium tires are perfect companions on wet slopes and on long straight stages”.

It will be the first tour to start in Denmark

The 109th edition of the Tour de France will start on 1 July in Copenhagen, the cycling capital of Europe, and will end after approximately 3.300 kilometers and 21 stages on the magnificent boulevard of the Avenue des Champs Élysées in Paris. 22 professional cyclists from 176 teams will face a 19-kilometer cobbled road as well as 6 mountain stages, including the legendary peak of L'Alpe d'Huez in the fifth stage.
