Italian painter Lorenzo Mariotti's personal exhibition titled “The Sea and Beyond” opened at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum. Consisting of 33 oil paintings by Mariotti, who reflects his maritime expertise on paintings, the exhibition sponsored by Tofaş invites art lovers to catch a different perspective by presenting everything related to the sea with snapshots from daily life.

Rahmi M. Koç Museum, Turkey's first and only industrial museum, is hosting the “Sea and Beyond” exhibition by Italian painter Lorenzo Mariotti. The artist, who produces in a wide range from architecture to landscape, from still life to portraiture, brings sea lovers to different experiences with the exhibition consisting of 33 oil paintings.

Having acquired his maritime expertise during the years he served as the head of the department on the legendary training ship of the Italian Navy, Amerigo Vespucci, Mariotti's works include historical frigates, ships, as well as a rope wrapped around the hands of a crewman, and children looking at the open warship from a rowboat with curious eyes. everything finds its place. The beauty added by objects symbolizing the sea to the paintings, sculptures and structures in Italy's historical regions, is also reflected in snapshots from daily life.

The exhibition, which is sponsored by Tofaş, is also supported by Organic Holding and Sacmi. The exhibition opened on 7 June at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum with an invitation.

Mine Sofuoğlu, General Manager of Rahmi M. Koç Museum, said, “As Rahmi M. Koç Museums, we have a very large maritime collection. There is a valuable collection of life-size boats and yachts, boats, ship equipment objects and ship machinery exhibited in Hasköy Shipyard, one of the main sections of our museum. Two sailboats that sailed the world, from the Fenerbahçe Ferry to the Uluçalireis Submarine, to the precious steamboats such as Gonca and Ysolt, and to a very important legacy that extends to the 'Maid of Honor', HMS Hood's Admiral Boat, as reflected in the painting by Mr. Lorenzo Mariotti. we host. The distinguished ship models exhibited in our Mustafa V. Koç Building are another important part of our nautical collection. With the personal collection of our founder, Rahmi M. Koç, who is a sea lover, as well as the contributions of our valuable donors, we shed light on maritime history and strive to transfer maritime culture to future generations. As a museum, we are trying to fulfill our duty duly for the development of maritime in our country surrounded by seas on three sides. In this context, I believe that Lorenzo Mariotti's works that go beyond the sea and reflect the snapshots of daily life masterfully will be met with great interest by our visitors.”

Speaking at the invitation, Lorenzo Mariotti thanked the Rahmi M. Koç Museum, which brought his works together with art lovers for the first time in Turkey. Mariotti stated that the works in the exhibition are grouped in three main themes that reflect his passions, and these are "maritime, architectural and botanical". Mariotti said: “It is a pleasure to be here today. Istanbul is an extraordinary and unique city for me. I am very lucky to be in Istanbul for the second time, which I came to in 1998 when I was serving on the Italian Navy ship Amerigo Vespucci. Thanks to HMS Hood's Admiral Boat 'Maid of Honor', I met Mr. Rahmi M. Koç and this unique museum. I made a painting of the Maid of Honor exhibited in the museum and presented it to Mr. Koç. I was very excited by Mr. Koç's invitation to open an exhibition here. We had to postpone two due to the pandemic, but we are finally together. As a lover of the sea and painting, I am very happy that my works are exhibited at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum, which houses such a rich collection on the subject of maritime.

The “Sea and Beyond” exhibition can be visited until September 11, 2022.

Who is Lorenzo Mariotti?

Born in Rome, Lorenzo Mariotti earned a PhD in civil engineering after studying Classical Antiquity. Working as the head of the department on the legendary training ship Amerigo Vespucci of the Italian Navy, Mariotti's path crossed with the painting, which he was always very curious about, when he met Maria Luisa Iannetti by chance. Taking part in many group exhibitions, the artist opened his first solo exhibition in 2009. The artist, who produces in a wide range from architecture to landscape, from still life to portraiture, works in oil paints and watercolors on wood or canvas.
