License Plate Recognition Systems Became the Eyes of Police and Gendarme in Traffic

With the License Plate Recognition Systems installed on the highways, vehicles that are searched, seized, stolen and with twin plates (copying a registered plate to a vehicle and attaching it to another vehicle) are immediately found. Thanks to the PTS system, 5 thousand 442 vehicles searched since the beginning of the year were detected, 930 stolen vehicles were found. Our Ministry has installed 80 cameras and 901 License Plate Recognition Systems (PTS) on highways in order to maximize vehicle and traffic safety in the police and gendarmerie responsibility areas.

The license plate can be defined and recorded in the database over the vehicle photos taken by PTSs and cameras. In this way, the information of the vehicles whose license plate is read can be queried in possible emergency security situations.

9.278 Vehicle Transaction Taken

Thanks to the PTS records, which provide great convenience to the security forces in the clarification of crime events, between 1 January and 5 June 2022; While 5.442 wanted vehicles were found, which were reported for a crime, 930 stolen vehicles were found.

In addition, 8 vehicles were banned from traffic, and judicial and administrative actions were taken against a total of 791 vehicles, 2.107 with stolen license plates and 9.278 with lost license plates.

How do License Plate Recognition Systems (PTS) work?

After the missing, stolen, wanted vehicle/plate plate notifications made to the police and gendarmerie stations are defined in the License Plate Recognition Systems, an alarm is sent to the police/gendarmerie teams over the system if the reported vehicle is traveling from any route with PTS.

In addition, if a vehicle with twin license plates and lien-arrests is detected by the PTS at any point in 81 provinces, without the condition of being notified, an alarm is sent to the law enforcement personnel, and the closest police / gendarmerie teams on the route where the vehicle was detected are directed to the region.
