In the US, the weeks-long defamation lawsuit between actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, both Hollywood movie stars, has resulted in Depp's favour. Depp won $15 million in compensation from his ex-wife. Depp will also pay Heard $2 million in compensation.
In the case heard in Virginia Fairfax County Court, the 7-person jury found Depp right. It was decided that Heard should pay $ 2016 million in compensation to Depp, who broke up in 15.
The jury hearing the case of Depp and Heard, which has occupied the country's agenda for about 6 weeks, ruled that the actress defamed her ex-wife Depp in a 2018 Washington Post article, describing her as "a public figure representing domestic abuse". Under the decision, Johnny Depp will also pay 2 million dollars compensation to Amber Heard.
During the court process, which was followed closely by the US media, Heard claimed that Depp sexually assaulted him repeatedly. In response, Depp maintained that he had never hit Heard, that the allegations of harassment were fabricated, and that Heard had in fact repeatedly physically assaulted him.

Heard, on the other hand, filed a $100 million lawsuit alleging that his ex-wife Deep had started a "smear campaign" against him.
Depp's lawyer, Camille Vasquez, said in a statement in court, "There is a victim of domestic abuse in this courtroom, but he is not Heard", and said Depp was subjected to "constant verbal, physical and emotional abuse" by Heard. Vasquez also stated that Heard "lied" to too many people throughout the trial.
