One of Turkey's leading land vehicle manufacturers, Katmerciler, exported HIZIR armored vehicles to Gambia. First of all, it was reported to the public that Gambia wanted to procure a Khidr 4×4 armored vehicle from Katmerciler, but there was no official transfer. In August 2021, it was stated that Gambia signed an agreement with Katmerciler. According to the information obtained by Defense Turk, meetings between the delegations and tests were carried out between Katmerciler and the Gambia Armed Forces. In the tests carried out, Hızır TTZA showed superior performance and the Gambian delegation was highly impressed by the armored vehicle. In the latest images that were released to the public, it was seen that the reception activities of the Gambia Armed Forces camouflaged Hızır TTZAs were carried out.
Katmerciler, which has a strong presence in Africa with its civilian products, will further increase its presence in this defense field with the realization of this export to Gambia. Katmerciler had previously exported to Kenya and Uganda, and also exported to an undisclosed country.
Furkan Katmerci, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Katmerciler, made a statement in the past months, “Our export move towards friendly countries from different parts of the world, especially Africa, continues.” He stated that they would continue their export activities.
Gambia, Military Cooperation and Training Agreement
In March 2021, the Gambian Delegation headed by Gambian Defense Minister Seikh Omar Faye visited Turkey. As a result of the visit, Gambian Defense Minister Seikh Omar Faye and National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar met. Minister Akar welcomed Seikh Omar Faye with a military ceremony at the Ministry of National Defense. During the meetings where views were exchanged on bilateral and regional security and defense issues and cooperation opportunities in the defense industry within the framework of Africa, Minister of National Defense Akar stated that Gambia is a friendly and brotherly country. In addition, Minister Akar emphasized the importance of developing military training and cooperation between Gambia and Turkey.
After the meetings, the Military Cooperation and Training Agreement, which was updated between the two countries, was signed by the Minister of National Defense Akar and the Minister of Defense of Gambia, Faye.
