The CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) decided to refer Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan to the High Disciplinary Board with a definite expulsion request.

The written press statement of CHP Deputy Chairman for Local Administrations, Seyit Torun, is as follows:

“Attitudes and behaviors put forward by Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan for a while are being followed sensitively by our Headquarters. In this context, Tanju Özcan was verbally warned many times by our Headquarters. In addition, a woman was referred to the High Disciplinary Board and punished with a "warning" because of the statements she used while telling her memory about her fellow countryman. Tanju Özcan's dialogue, sexist comments and remarks with a female municipal councilor at the Bolu Municipal Assembly Meeting held on May 16, 2022, following her “warning” sentence, were comprehensively evaluated at the meeting of our Central Executive Board on June 13, 2022. In this context; It has been unanimously decided to refer Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan to the High Disciplinary Board with a "precautionary" request for "definitive dismissal" due to his attitudes and behaviors that are incompatible with the responsibility of the party.

Who is Tanju Ozcan?

Tanju Özcan (born 12 December 1973, Mengen) is a Turkish lawyer and politician. He served as a Bolu deputy between 2011-2019. He was elected as the mayor of Bolu from the Republican People's Party (CHP) in the 2019 local elections.

On 12 December 1973, both teachers; He was born in Turnaköy, Bolu's Mengen district, as the child of Galip Bey and Emine Hanım. After graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Law, he worked as a freelance lawyer. Before being elected as a deputy, he continued his duties as a member of the municipal council and the manager of Boluspor.

He entered the parliament for the first time as a Bolu deputy from the Republican People's Party in the 2011 Turkish general elections. Turkish Grand National Assembly XXIV. He was a Clerk member of the Term Presidency Council. He re-entered the parliament as CHP Bolu deputy in the June 2015 Turkish general elections, where no party could reach the required number of seats to be in power alone. He entered the parliament as a CHP Bolu deputy in the November 2015 Turkish general elections. He was elected as Bolu deputy once again in the 2018 Turkish general elections.

He was the CHP's Bolu mayoral candidate for the first time in the 29 March 2009 local elections, but was not elected. After 10 years and 3 terms as a member of parliament, he was nominated for the mayor of Bolu again from the CHP in the local elections held on March 31, 2019. Özcan was elected mayor with 52.71 percent of the votes. On April 5, 2019, he took the office of mayor from his predecessor, Alaaddin Yılmaz, by taking an oath on the Qur'an at his own request. He resigned from parliament.

He is married, has one child, and speaks fluent English and intermediate German.
