Kilis Governor Recep Soytürk said that the claims that the number of Syrians living in Kilis are more than the Turkish population do not reflect the truth.

At the press conference he held, Governor Soytürk stated that certain circles, especially on social media, have made claims that do not reflect the truth that the Syrian population exceeds the Turkish population in Kilis and said, “We needed the following statement to be made regarding these allegations. The number of Syrians is 109.667. The number of people who have temporary protection identity cards but have been inactive for the last 2 years is 18.504. Therefore, the actual number of people living in Kilis is around 91 thousand. When we add these two figures, the number of people living in Kilis is 237 thousand. The ratio of 237 thousand to 91 is about 38,5%. Therefore, as claimed, the number of Syrians living in Kilis is not more than the Turkish population.
