Metin Akbaş, General Manager of the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), explained the "2053 Vision of Railways" to the members of the Turkish Public Enterprises Association. The “Inter-Institutional Dialogue Development Meeting”, attended by the general manager and assistant managers who are members of the Turkish Public Enterprises Association, was held at the TCDD Behiç Erkin Hall. Speaking at the meeting, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş informed the bureaucrats about the developments in the railways. Akbaş underlined that the meeting will make a significant contribution to the cooperation between public enterprises. Making a presentation about TCDD and answering questions, Akbaş said, “With the investments we made, we increased our railway length, which was 2003 thousand 10 km in 959, to 2021 thousand 19 kilometers with an increase of 13 percent by the end of 22. While constructing new high-speed and high-speed train lines, we also continue to work on the renewal and modernization of our existing lines. With the works we have done, our electric lines have reached 6 thousand 24 kilometers. Thus, 47 percent of our lines have been electrified. Significant progress has been made in the signaling projects, which we attach great importance to, and the length of the signaled line has reached 7 thousand 94 kilometers. Thus, 55 percent of all our lines have been signaled.” said.
Drawing attention to the importance of the national signaling system developed in cooperation with TÜBİTAK, Akbaş said, “We are expanding this system on our lines. In this context, 595 kilometers, or 180 percent, of our ongoing 74 kilometers signaling projects is the national signaling system.” he said.
Providing information about the ongoing and completed projects, Akbaş said, “Our high-speed, speed and conventional line construction works started in 2003 are still 4 thousand 407 km, 314 thousand 4 km of which is high-speed and speed trains, 721 km of which is conventional lines. continues on the line. At the beginning of this year (January 8, 2022), we opened the Konya-Karaman High Speed Line, which is operated at a maximum speed of 200 km / h, with the participation of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Infrastructure and superstructure construction works continue in the 135 km Karaman-Ulukışla section, which is the continuation of this project. The tender for the 196 kilometer Aksaray-Ulukışla-Yenice section, which will transport the high-speed train line to Mersin and Adana, has been made and the contract has been signed. We have completed the test and certification studies in the 250-kilometer Balıseyh-Yerköy-Akdağmadeni-Sivas section of the Ankara-Sivas YHT Project, which was built in accordance with the speed of 603 km/h and will reduce the 405 km distance to 315 km. The works between Kayaş-Balıseyh, which is 78 km long, are continuing intensively. Located on the corridor connecting Asia and Europe, the 229-kilometer stretch of Halkalı-The first phase of the Kapikule High Speed Train Project, which is 153 kilometers long Çerkezköy- 56% physical progress was achieved in the Kapikule section. The lines and stations, which have been untouched and neglected for years, have been renewed, and 13 provinces of our country have been connected to each other by the High-speed train network. Together with our high-speed train lines, we are building modern train stations that can meet all the demands of our passengers with a customer-oriented approach. In addition, we are modernizing and renewing our existing historical and cultural stations. On the other hand, we cooperate with local governments in order to find solutions to traffic congestion in our big cities and provide a comfortable transportation opportunity in metro standards in urban transportation. The journey time between Europe and Asia has been reduced to 4 minutes with Marmaray, one of the most original projects in the world that connects the continents of Asia and Europe by rail under the sea. The number of passengers carried by Marmaray exceeded 700 million. With the completion of İZBAN in İzmir, MARMARAY in İstanbul and BAŞKENTRAY in Ankara, the total length of our suburban lines has reached 248 km. Signaling test and certification studies continue in the 26 km long GAZİRAY Project in Gaziantep.”
“In the 2053 Turkey Logistics and Transport Master Plan announced by our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Adil Karaismailoğlu last month, a new road map was drawn for the railways. According to the plan, our railway network, which is currently 13 thousand 22 kilometers, will more than double and be extended to 28 thousand 590 kilometers. Akbaş concluded his speech as follows: “The share of passenger transportation will be increased from 1,9 percent to 6,20 percent, and the share of freight transportation will be increased from 5,08 percent to 21,93 percent. The number of provinces connected by high-speed trains will also be increased from 13 to 52. Annual passenger transport will be increased from 19,5 million to 269,8 million. Annual freight transport will reach 55 million tons from 448 million tons. The number of logistics centers will be increased from 12 to 26. By strengthening Turkey's east-west, north-south railway connection, more of our citizens will have the privilege of fast, comfortable and safe travel. We are working hard to move our country and railways forward, and we will continue to do so.”
