Rize-Artvin Airport Will Be Turkey's 58th Airport

Rize-Artvin Airport, Turkey's second airport built by filling the sea, will be opened by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan tomorrow.

Built on an area of ​​3 million square meters, Rize-Artvin Airport will fully meet the air transportation needs of the region with its 45-meter-wide and 3-meter-long runway.

The airport, whose foundation was laid on April 3, 2017, will have an annual passenger capacity of 3 million. Realized with its unique architecture and advanced engineering technologies, the airport has a total closed area of ​​32 thousand square meters with a terminal building of 47 thousand square meters and other support buildings.

At the airport, which bears traces of the cultural elements of the region, a 36-meter-high tower was built, inspired by the form of a tea glass, as well as the terminal building in which the local architecture is reflected. The tower, whose body is illuminated, will add vitality to the silhouette of the region.

Rize-Artvin Airport, which will take its place among the few examples of the world in its field with its technical and construction features, has a landscape area of ​​approximately 19 football fields, in other words, more than 135 thousand square meters. 49 thousand square meters of the airport has been greened with 1453 trees, which are compatible with the geographical features of the Black Sea.

There is a car park with a capacity of 448 vehicles at the airport, where the Tea Museum and artistic objects are located in order to introduce Rize tea to the whole world and to explain the journey of tea from the garden to the cup with its history and effects in the region.

The airport, which will serve the nation, the environment and the country's economy with its contributions to the country's tourism, trade and production, especially in the Eastern Black Sea Region, will also be the transfer center of the transportation chain that will arise from the potential traffic between the Eastern Black Sea, Caucasus and Middle East countries.

The airport was determined as a permanent air border gate open to international entrances and exits with the President's Decision published in the Official Gazette.
