Under the auspices of the Presidency, with the contributions of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in cooperation with the Governorship of Istanbul and Muğla, the 2022rd International Yacht Race of the Presidency organized by the Istanbul Offshore Yacht Racing Club within the scope of the 3 Activity Program of the Turkish Sailing Federation The meeting was held at AKM.

The 4 calendar and route of the Presidential International Yacht Races, which will be held for the third time under the auspices of the Presidency and consist of 2022 races, have been determined. The first race, the Halicarnassus Cup, will start from Marmaris on May 25 and end in Bodrum on May 190, with the completion of a very challenging 27-nautical-mile route. With the award ceremony to be held at Bodrum Castle on May 28, the winners of the first race will receive their trophies.

The other three races of the championship will be held in Istanbul as October 28 Blue Homeland Cup, October 29 Republic Cup and October 30 Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Cup.

At the press conference held at the Atatürk Cultural Center of the organization, Ekrem Yemlihaoğlu of the Istanbul Open Sea Yacht Racing Club, Özlem Akdurak, the President of the Turkish Sailing Federation, Burhanettin Hacıcaferoğlu, the Provincial Director of Istanbul Youth and Sports, and Engin Yuvaktaş, the sporting director of the Istanbul Open Sea Yacht Racing Club, made statements to the press members about the event. .

The most prestigious yacht organization

Ekrem Yemlihaoğlu, who spoke at the opening of the press conference, stated that the Presidential International Yacht Race took its place as one of the most prestigious yacht races and said, “As our organization has just entered its 3rd year, it has taken its place as one of the most prestigious yacht races in both national and international channels. . I would like to express our deepest gratitude to our President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who supported us in every way in this difficult process and enabled us to achieve this success. Contrary to the general belief in our country, yachting is one of the most challenging sports branches in the world. Think of a sport where you compete against your opponents by pushing your limits while fighting against nature. High level of physical and mental endurance, knowledge, courage, team spirit are just a few of the virtues you should have. We believe that the races will contribute to the promotion of the country, that this race will attract great attention with foreign competitors and foreign media, and we are working on this path. Muğla, the capital of tourism, has a unique beauty. Istanbul is the point where two continents meet. It's like no other in the world. One side of us is Asia, the other side is Europe, you are in Asia and you are in Europe,” he said.

Turkish sailing has an important place in the world

Expressing that the organization is of great importance for our country, Turkish Sailing Federation President Özlem Akdurak said, “Although we have reached the third place yet, our races have taken fast steps towards becoming a brand in the international community. Our country has ideal conditions to become the center of world sailing. Yacht Races also add great value to this effort. Many local and foreign athletes will compete in this race, which will show how far Turkey has gone in sailing. Turkish sailing has an important place in the world with its world and European championships.”

Istanbul Youth and Sports Provincial Director Burhanettin Hacıcaferoğlu, regarding the organization that was born and developed rapidly during the pandemic process, said, “I am very happy to be at the launch of these races, which are under the auspices of our President. It is important for an organization to be sustainable rather than starting it. It is an important sport for our country. The rapid development of yachting and sailing is extremely important. In yachting, it will contribute not only to sports, but also to our country in terms of sports tourism. Races will take place in different classes

Engin Yuvaktaş, the sporting director of Istanbul Open Sea Yacht Racing Club, who took the final word at the press conference, gave information about the technical details of the races:

“We will hold yacht races in 11 different classes this year. These classes are mainly divided into those with a racing license and those without. It was 11 last year in 90 classes in total, we think it will exceed 100 this year. It consists of 4 races in total. You can compare it to Formula 1. The first race will take place in Muğla. It's a 190-mile race. Other races will be held in Istanbul between 28-30 October. The Barbaros Hayrettin Cup will be held on October 28, the Republic Cup on October 29, and the Blue Homeland Cup on October 30. Halicarnassus Cup is our first race, our opening race. It will take place in Muğla between 25-27 May. We attach great importance to women's sailing teams and university teams."

The Muğla stage of the 3rd Presidential Yacht Race will be held on the Marmaris-Göcek-Bodrum route, one of the most special destinations in the world, on 25-27 May. The award ceremony of the races where the teams will compete for the Halicarnassus Cup will be held on 28 May at Bodrum Castle.

Blue Homeland, Republic and Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Cups will compete in Istanbul.

The Istanbul stage will take place on the dazzlingly beautiful Bosphorus, with the name "City living on two continents". The races, which will start on October 28, will be held respectively on the Blue Homeland Cup (Islands track), 29 October Republic Day, Republic Cup (Bosphorus) and Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Cup (Caddebostan track). The Istanbul stage will end with a magnificent award ceremony on October 30th.

At the end of the four races where sailboats from all over the world and hundreds of racers will compete for the championship, the team that will achieve the best overall ranking will be entitled to the title of Presidential International Yacht Racing Champion and the President's Cup.
