Mathematics Mobilization Started

The Mathematics Mobilization Promotion Ceremony, prepared by the Ministry of National Education with the understanding of “mathematics everywhere”, was held with the participation of Minister Mahmut Özer.

The Mathematics Mobilization Promotion Ceremony, which was initiated in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, TUBITAK and universities to adapt the learning of mathematics to daily life skills, and to facilitate learning and to ensure that students love this lesson from a young age, was held with the participation of Minister Mahmut Özer.

In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Özer stated that they would change the approach to learning in mathematics and pointed out the enthusiasm in the hall and said that this was not a mobilization but a festival.

Minister Özer stated that they are excited to enter a new path hand in hand with teachers and students and to take a new step towards the future.

Stating that Turkey has made a great quality-oriented transformation in the field of education in the last 20 years, Minister Özer noted that the focus of the new period is equality of opportunity in education.

“Mathematics is the keystone of equal opportunity in education”

Minister Özer, who said that the main focus of all the projects implemented by the Ministry, from the 10.000 Schools in Basic Education project to the many other projects implemented by the Ministry, is equality of opportunity in education, continued his words as follows: “Just as this country has solved its other problems related to access to education, it has the acquis that can solve its problems related to equal opportunities in education. How can we facilitate the teaching of mathematics, which has been a chronic problem for years? I believe that the keystone of equal opportunity in education is teaching mathematics because we all need mathematics. Mathematics is needed not only for our students with numerical disposition, but also for our students with verbal dispositions, as well as for our students with equal weight disposition. In fact, we need to change this paradigm. Mathematics provides an instrument that is necessary for every human being to understand life, to interpret life, and to walk rationally through life. We are starting the mathematical mobilization together today in order to raise our young people with these skills to the world of the 21st century. Hopefully, this will gradually spread to 81 provinces and 922 districts, and very good success stories will emerge.”

Mathematics summer schools will open

Reminding that he made a statement regarding the opening of summer schools in BİLSEMs yesterday, Minister Özer said, “We increased the number of BİLSEMs from 2020 in 183 to 2022 in 355. From now on, we will teach two courses within the scope of summer school in BİLSEMs: Science and art. Regardless of whether they are BİLSEM students from the 2nd to the 12th grade, we have given our children the opportunity to attend summer schools in the provinces they want.” he said.

Minister Özer also announced a new good news about summer schools in the program as follows: “We are taking a new step in the field of mathematics mobilization. In order to integrate our students in the field much more into these processes, we are opening mathematics summer schools in our provinces and districts within the scope of support and training courses from the 4th to the 12th grade. We cannot afford to wait and delay even for a moment. We will continue to walk on our path and make new initiatives in a way that reduces inequalities much more strongly in the 2022-2023 academic year, by implementing the things we have decided quickly in the summer.”
