Organized as part of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day events, hosted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the “Izmir International Youth and Dance Festival” came to an end with the dance competition held in Gündoğdu Square. Competing in the categories of Hip hop, Popping, Breaking, House and Feel the Drum, the young people showed all their skills.

Organized as part of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day events, hosted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the Izmir International Youth and Dance Festival made the city dance between 19 and 21 May. Dance lovers from Izmir, who met in the program full of workshops, competitions and performances, showed great interest in the festival.

They competed in Gündoğdu

The festival, which started with workshops on May 19, continued on May 20 with the pre-selection of the competition. While 395 people attended the workshops, 385 people applied for the pre-selection of the competition. Among the dancers who showed all their skills in the eliminations, the finalists performed in the categories of Hip hop, Popping, Breaking, House and Feel the Drum at Gündoğdu Square.

Özuslu: “Youth means energy”

Speaking before the finals on the closing day of the festival, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu said, “Youth means energy, change and renewal. Youth means rebellion, youth means protest… You have it all. You will object, you will rebel and you will change this country with dance and music” and received great applause from the contestants and the people of Izmir.

World Hip Hop dance champion Paradox from the Netherlands, Russia Breakdance Champion and national team athlete Alcoholil, Russia Women's Breakdance Champion and national team athlete Vavi, World Popping dance champion Soyuz, Turkey Hip Hop Dance Champion Can TOHMA, Turkey Popping Champion Biser Mutlu, Netherlands House Dance Champion Tamara, Italy Hip Hop Dance Champion Chiara Ceres, Turkey House Dance Champion Burak Kılıç, Turkey Breakdance National Team Athletes Jimmy King, Edwin and Jester, Timothy from Germany. Mc Cihan, Mc Foggy and Aydan Uysal hosted the festival, with music by DJ Udo (Germany), DJ Usta and DJ Dekhan and accompanied by Ayberk Çölok on drums.

Winners announced

Volkan Arıcı won the competition in the hip hop battle category, Akay Üstünel in the Feel The Drum battle category, Noel (Netherlands) in the House battle category, Dope Dog (Russia) in the Breaking Battle category, and Akay Üstünel in the Popping battle category. The winner of the Sina Cora Special Jury Award was Leyla (Iran), and the İsmail Akça Special Jury Award was Bboy Broccoli.
