Alstom Will Deliver 130 Locomotives to Baden, Germany

Alstom, the world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a contract to supply 130 Coradia Stream High Capacity (HC) electric double-decker trains to the Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg (SFBW) for the Baden-Württemberg network in Germany. In addition to the delivery of the trains, Alstom is contracted to provide full-service maintenance for a period of 30 years to ensure the uninterrupted availability of the trains. In addition, the contract reserves the option to order up to 100 additional trains. Worth around €130 billion for the first 2,5 trains and with over 30 years of maintenance, this is Alstom's largest ever order in Germany.

Despite the very powerful vehicles with a top speed of 200 km/h, we have also taken care to produce very energy efficient vehicles. Alstom will also be responsible for energy consumption during the contract period.”

The four-car trains consist of two double-deck control cars and two single-deck middle cars for a total of 380 seats. They have a length of 106 meters and can operate in multiple traction. Trains are built to SFBW requirements and contribute to modern transportation in the region. Air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, numerous charging options for mobile phones and laptops, and reading lights all add to an enjoyable travel experience.

In addition, relaxation areas, conference and family compartments offer a high level of comfort, while multi-purpose compartments offer space for large luggage, strollers and bicycles. Wide single-leaf doors and optimized opening and closing times ensure fast entry and exit. Passengers with reduced mobility can enjoy the luxury of traveling with the same comfort as other passengers. For example, the door sills of the vehicles provide step-free access from the standard platform, which is 760 mm above the rails, and for stations with different platform heights, there are special elevators in the cabin for wheelchair passengers.

Within the scope of the lighthouse project known as “Digital Node Stuttgart” (DKS), Germany's first digitized railway node, trains are also equipped with modern signaling and automation technology. They will be operational in 2025 simultaneously with the first two divisions of DKS. The subsequent upgrade of vehicles to TSI CCS 2022, the future evolution of the European standard for cross-border traffic in the European Economic Area, will be implemented by mid-2027. This will allow all three parts of the DKS to be used.

Alstom has been awarded retrofit contracts for existing fleets of SFBW Talent 3 and Flirt 3 vehicles. The new Coradia Stream High Capacity trains will also be equipped with vehicle devices for European Train Control System (ETCS) level 2 and 3, as well as Automated Train Operation (ATO) in Automation Degree 2 (GoA). For the first time in Germany, newly built vehicles will be equipped with a Train Integrity Monitoring System (TIMS) and ETCS Level 3 and, in partial stages, the Future Railway Mobile Communications System (FRMCS). This enables tighter, more intense and more energy efficient driving through digitally predictive signaling and driving commands. It increases the efficiency and reliability of regional transportation, especially on lines that are heavily used. With a smoother rail service overall, passengers can expect more frequent and secure connections. In this way, by combining sustainability, capacity and comfort with Coradia Stream High Capacity, Alstom contributes to making regional transportation greener, smarter and more comfortable in the long run.

Coradia Stream is a state-of-the-art, low-floor, high-performance electric multiple unit (EMU) with a top speed of up to 200 km/h, offering a modular design that allows operators to choose the best configuration. and drink. Developed for the European market, Coradia Stream can operate on all major European power supply systems. In total, more than 730 trains based on the Coradia Stream train family were ordered in Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Spain, resulting in a proven product. The train family also offers emission-free traction solutions such as batteries or hydrogen for non-electrified lines.
