At the concert organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the world-famous artist Alexandra Gravas and the Ruhi Su Friends Choir shared the same stage. In fact, the greatest victory of the 100th year is peace. The fact that we have maintained peace for 100 years… The most beautiful language of peace is music. Because even if people speak different languages, if the common melody of the music makes the same bangs vibrate, it means that there is a lot of common denominator between the people of those two sides in their hearts. The Spiritual Water Choir and Alexandra Gravas, which we will listen to tonight, will actually remind us of this once again. Be sure that we will listen to music that will make the people of both sides vibrate the same. I hope this reminds us once again how much we have in common at the same time.”

The eternal friendship of the two sides met in Izmir

The night when the people of Izmir were full of music started with the Alexandra Gravas Concert. After the concert consisting of 5 pieces in Turkish and Greek, Ruhi Su Dostlar Chorus took the stage. The choir performed 7 pieces in Turkish and Greek. Finally, Alexandra Gravas and Ruhi Su Friends Choir shared the same stage and brought together 3 works of art with art lovers.

Concerts will contribute to world peace

In order to reinforce the peace and friendship of the peoples living on both sides of the Aegean, the second leg of the concert, in which Turkish and Greek works and Aegean folk songs are performed, is planned to be held in Greece. Thus, it is aimed to contribute to world peace.

Who is Alexandra Gravas?

Alexandra Gravas, who also received the Greek UNESCO award for her contribution to the arts in 2017 and the Greek Union of Actors and Musicians Award in 2019, is recognized worldwide as an artist performing the works of Greek Contemporary composers. The artist, who successfully sang the works of the new generation Greek composers, combining the traditional classical songs of the West with Greek music, is known as the “cultural ambassador” in Greece. The house where Alexandra Gravas' ancestors lived before the population exchange is located in the Söke district of Aydın.

Ruhi Water Culture and Art Association and Ruhi Water Friends Choir

Ruhi Su Culture and Art Association, which carries out its activities in Istanbul, was founded in April 2012, which coincides with the centennial of Ruhi Su's birth. Ruhi Su Culture and Art Association continues its works in order to both research his artist identity and works and to contribute to folk culture and music under the leadership of these studies. Since the day it was founded, many events such as exhibitions, commemoration nights, documentary screenings, especially the concerts of the Ruhi Su Friends Choir, have been organized within the scope of the association. Friends Choir, which started with about sixty people, together with Ruhi Su; He recorded three albums, El Kapıları (1976), Sabahın Owner Var (1977) and Semahlar (1978). He has performed with many artists until today; He gave numerous concerts at home and abroad and trained over five hundred chorists. The Ruhi Su Dostlar Chorus is among the few choirs in Turkey that have a rich repertoire.
