President Erdoğan said, “At our cabinet meeting, we made a new assessment regarding the Kovid-31 permits, which are applied under certain conditions for convicts in open prisons and expire on May 19. Accordingly, we are extending the Kovid-19 permits of convicts in open prisons until July 31, 2023. Our Assembly will implement the necessary legal regulation in this regard as soon as possible. We are opening the way for our youth to benefit from compulsory military service, whose number is around 550 thousand," he said.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, lasted about 3 hours. Making a statement after the meeting, in which developments at home and abroad were discussed, President Erdoğan said:

“After our last cabinet meeting, I participated in programs that conducive to beneficial services for our country and nation. We hosted our foreign guests. We had critical talks on the international agenda. We met with distinguished members of our justice organization. On the same day, we hosted the President of Kazakhstan, Mr. Tokayev, in our complex, and we were pleased to see that we agreed. We met with our disabled youth. We commemorated master Necip Fazıl Kısakürek with mercy and longing on the 13th anniversary of his death on May 39. We opened Rize Artvin Airport, one of the proudest works of our country, on 14 May with my brother Mr. Aliyev, MHP Chairman Mr. Bahçeli and BBP Chairman Mr. Destici. Rize Artvin Airport's 3 kilometer runway and annual passenger capacity of 3 million will hopefully contribute to the development of trade and tourism in the region. Last Monday, we hosted the Prime Minister of Algeria, Mr. Tebbun. On Tuesday, we went to this country to pay our condolences for the death of the former President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa. We paid our condolences visit to his brother and the Emir of Abu Dhabi.
A MESSAGE OF CONDITIONS TO THE YOUTH WHO LOSE THEIR LIVES
On May 19, we embraced our youth and our national athletes, who made us proud with their achievements, with an enthusiastic program in Ankara. We attended the groundbreaking ceremony of our hospice, then we met with the President of Colombia and his family. We participated in a magnificent youth feast in Adana with tens of thousands outside the stadium and tens of thousands inside. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you my sincere regret for the tragic traffic accident and loss of life after our youth feast. We bid farewell to 3 of our brothers. My condolences to them and their family and nation. I pray to my Lord for a speedy recovery to our 41 injured children. I would like to thank everyone who shared our pain after the accident. On this occasion, I would like to express my congratulations on behalf of myself and my nation to our boxers who made history with 5 gold and 2 bronze medals at the World Women's Boxing Championship last week.
NEW DECISION ON OPEN PRISON PERMISSIONS AND MILITARY SERVICE
- We are extending the COVID-31 leave of convicts in open prisons, which expired on May 19, until July 31, 2023.
