A protocol was signed between the Ministry of National Education and the Turkish Education Association (TED) for the enrichment of school libraries. Within the scope of the protocol signed by the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer and TED Chairman Selçuk Pehlivanoğlu, 10.000 thousand books will be sent to approximately 500 schools determined within the framework of the 150 Schools in Basic Education Project.

Mahmut Özer, Minister of National Education; In his speech at the protocol signing ceremony, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife, Emine Erdoğan, took important steps to increase equal opportunities in education and reduce the opportunity differences between schools on October 26 last year, and that a new study was carried out to have a library in all schools that provide education to 18 million students. Reminds me of what they started.

In this context, Özer stated that they started the campaign "There will be no school without a library" and said, "Can this be achieved in a huge education system with 2 schools and 57 thousand classrooms in 108 months?" He continued his words as follows:

“We built 16 libraries in a short period of two months with an intense pace, and by the end of 361, there is no school without a library in this country. Not only did we build libraries, we also started a huge effort to increase the number of books in schools. When we started this process on October 2021, there were 26 million books in all schools, from pre-school to high school; As of now, the number of books in all our schools is 28 million. We have an education system with 60 million books in basic education. This is so valuable… At the start of this process on October 40, 26 books per student were now 1,3 books. Our goal by the end of 3,3 is to reach 2022 million books in our schools. Planning is going very well, we will reach this goal very easily; When we reach it, we will have increased the number of books per student from 100 to 1,3.

Students are not only academically successful; Stating that they want him to grow up as people who are constantly strengthened with culture, art and social skills and capable of building the Turkey of the future, Minister Özer said, TED Chairman Pehlivanoğlu, who has been making great efforts to improve the quality of education in this country since 1994 and to display a national stance. He expressed his gratitude on behalf of teachers and students.

Noting that they held a meeting with private education institutions to be an active component of the process of increasing equality of opportunity in education at a meeting in Antalya, Özer said, “We do not consider private education institutions as a separate system of the Ministry of National Education, but as an integral part of us, and together we support the youth of this country. We are making efforts to educate them, to make them assertive people in the future.” said.

Stating that TED entered the “No School Without a Library” project very quickly and finalized the process, Özer said, “They brought such a meaningful collaboration involving 100 book sets and 500 schools to its final point. Thus, we will send 150 thousand books to our schools. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to them for being a stakeholder in the project, which is so important for the country.” he said.

“We wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the school opportunities offered to us.”

Expressing that the Ministry of National Education has achieved significant success in the last 20 years and that the schooling rates have reached the level of OECD countries, Özer said:

“What we need to focus on now is to continuously improve the quality of education. To raise our students from lower proficiency levels to higher proficiency levels as much as possible, as in the proficiency levels in monitoring student achievement in the 15-year-old group in PISA, and to do this in a balanced way... to ensure that they can benefit equally… In fact, this is the point where the State of the Republic of Turkey is the strongest.

Let's all look at our past. We wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the school opportunities offered to us. Most of us studied in village schools, he became an idealistic teacher who touched the lives of many of us. That's why we need to mobilize all our resources as much as possible, work hand in hand with our education community, and use our country's acquis to provide all children with a much better education opportunity, and we have the power to do so."

Pointing to the importance of libraries, Özer said, “Maybe a book sent to a village school will change a student's life. Just like the butterfly effect… We want libraries in schools to be the heart of the school, let our children get in touch with books and spend time there. They should not meet big libraries only when they go to higher education; Let them improve their development by thinking and reading at primary and secondary school levels.” he said.

Noting that an international conference on digital obesity will be held at the weekend, hosted by TED, Özer stated that digitalization has started to evolve towards directed addiction and said, “These libraries are also very important for the recovery of distractions caused by the internet or other digital platforms related to students' thinking and focus. will contribute.” made its assessment.

Emphasizing that there is no problem in education that cannot be solved when hand in hand, Özer said, “But education is not an area that has the right to have a say at the discretion of any segment. Since it affects the future of all citizens, it is a common area of consensus where all segments can come together. Therefore, cooperation in the field of education is one of the most important threads for the future of our country.” made the emphasis.

“Contributing to libraries is an honor for the TED family”

TED Chairman Selçuk Pehlivanoğlu said, “Civil society is a giver, not a taker. Civil society is a role model. Civil society is the one who sees the entire nation, which is not separated into black or white, as its own and aspires to give what it has to the structure it should serve.” It started with statements.

When the Project No School Will Be Left Without a Library started, Minister Özer asked, "Can we have salt in the soup, too?" Pehlivanoğlu said, "I thank him for opening a door for us to serve the schools of this nation's children." said.

Pehlivanoğlu said, “You provide social justice in a country not by how you educate the rich, but by how you offer equal opportunities to the disadvantaged. Whether the young population is an opportunity or a threat is also related to their education. What you need to do here is to construct education systems that will remind you of being human in a world order where life is digitized. In the 21st century, we are living in a process that is gradually moving away from being human and being the slave of machines and digitalization. That is why we have to give importance to our disadvantaged schools above all else. As TED, I would like to state that we are ready for any task given to us by our state. We think that every child who will read and expand their horizons by learning from the book they hold is an opportunity for the future of this country. It is an honor for the TED family, especially to contribute to the libraries of our disadvantaged schools. ” he said.

Within the scope of the protocol between the Ministry of National Education and TED for the enrichment of school libraries, book sets will be sent to approximately 10.000 schools identified within the framework of the 500 Schools in Basic Education Project. Sets of 50 books consisting of 50 books and 100 distinguished works of children's literature prepared by the General Directorate of Basic Education; It will be sent to provincial national education directorates in June to be delivered to schools in Erzincan, Erzurum, Kars, Sivas, Yozgat, Bitlis, Iğdır, Kırıkkale, Ağrı, Muş, Van, Bingöl, Elazığ, Kahramanmaraş, Malatya and Ardahan.
