Rails Submerged; Eastern Express Flight Disrupted

With the rapid melting of snow in Kars, floods and landslides occurred. Two highways were closed. The railway was closed due to a landslide, and the Eastern Express was delayed.

A landslide occurred near Çatak village of Sarıkamış district of Erzurum-Kars railway. The railway between Sarıkamış and Kars was closed to transportation.

As the temperatures in Kars rose above seasonal norms, the snow layer in the region suddenly melted. With the increase in the flow of the Kars stream, agricultural lands, houses and barns were flooded. A freight train going from Sarıkamış to Kars and the Eastern Express train could not progress either. Passengers on the Eastern Express were transported to Kars by buses.

Rails submerged

In the city, the rails between Kars and Akyaka district were also partially submerged due to the melting snow. There was no disruption in the train services between Kars and Akyaka.

The floods caused by the sudden melting of the snow also damaged the highways. Kağızman-Selim and Selim-Istasyon highway, some parts of which were filled with water and partially damaged, were closed to all vehicles by the Highways teams.

The works of the 18th Regional Directorate of Highways are continuing to open the routes, where the gendarmerie teams also take precautions.
