The tender held by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the demolition of the main service building, which was evacuated due to damage in the earthquake, has been concluded. 11 companies competed in the second stage tender, which was held by auction. Nermanoğlu Infrastructure Urban Transformation company, which made the highest payment offer to the municipality in return for demolition, won the tender with a 19 million lira offer.

The tender held by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the demolition of the main service building, which was evacuated because it was damaged in the October 30 earthquake, has been concluded. Two of the 13 companies that participated in the first stage of the tender, which was held in two stages, were eliminated by the tender commission. After the financial offers of 11 companies were submitted, the winner was determined in the tender, which was held in the auction method. "Nermanoğlu Infrastructure Urban Transformation Petroleum Products Fuel Oil Mining Recycling Facility Operations" company, which gave the highest bid of 19 million liras to the municipality in return for demolition, won the tender. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Dr. Buğra Gökçe presided. With the report prepared by the Istanbul Technical University Disaster Management Institute, it was revealed that the retrofit option of the building was not suitable in terms of technical aspects and efficient use of public resources, and the Metropolitan Municipality went out to tender for the demolition. Demolition works, which will start after the contract with the company, will be completed in 2 days.

Special section on asbestos in the tender technical specifications

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has prepared a special technical specification that includes health and safety precautions before demolition operations. Accordingly, the company that received the tender will collect, pack and transport the asbestos-containing material, according to the determination report received by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality from the laboratory accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK) before starting the demolition process, and will start the demolition process after cleaning the site. In all these processes, it will comply with the Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Law, and Regulations for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road. Asbestos removal works will be carried out by personnel with "Asbestos Removal Certificate".

Architectural project competition will be opened

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will use the vacant area after the demolition with a smaller building that will house the mayor and municipal council hall. The new building will be determined by an architectural project competition. The project, which is aimed to be supported with public, cultural and artistic functions, will be open to the contributions of urban stakeholders such as professional chambers and non-governmental organizations related to a participatory method on the scale of urban design including the immediate environment. The competition will be open to national and international participation and will be concluded in two stages.
Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer He announced that a smaller building, in harmony with the historical square, was planned, where the presidency and the city council hall would be located instead of the building to be demolished.

Served for 38 years

The projects of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Main Service Building were decided by the "Architectural Project Competition" opened in 1966. Construction of the building began in 1968, but was inaugurated in 1982.
