'A Library for Every Neighborhood' Campaign Continues in İzmir

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's “A Library for Every Neighborhood” campaign continues. The headman of Çiğli Güzeltepe Mahallesi, Erkan Yılmaz, who could not apply for the library because the headman's building was narrow, donated books for other neighborhoods. Speaking about the importance of the campaign initiated by President Soyer, Muhtar Yılmaz said: “Our Bronze President had stated that he should receive books instead of flowers and gifts. This campaign got me very excited. The campaign is our future. It is not possible to wait for a library to be built in our neighborhood. I donated books so that not only ours but also all neighborhoods have libraries. I invite everyone to participate in the book donation.”

Expressing his satisfaction with such support, President Soyer wished this donation to set an example.

Within the scope of the campaign, which started with the call of President Soyer on April 1, 1 thousand book donations were collected in 6 month. At least 10 headmen's libraries can be opened with the books collected so far. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality aims to open 50 libraries in the first place within the scope of One Library for Every Neighborhood campaign.

Training for mukhtars from the Directorate of Libraries

İZBETON in the first place Bayraklı, Bornova, Buca, Çiğli, Güzelbahçe, Gaziemir, Karabağlar, Karşıyaka, Kemalpaşa, Konak and Narlıdere will establish libraries in the headmen. The books collected within the scope of the campaign will be sorted, cleaned and sent to the headman's libraries established by İZBETON by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Libraries Directorate. The Libraries Directorate will provide training to mukhtars on the basics of book classification, arrangement, lending and library management.

Within the scope of the "A Library for Every Neighborhood" project, the mukhtars of Izmir had been informed about the project. Headmen, who wanted to benefit from the project, conveyed their library requests to İZBETON. İZBETON teams examined the mukhtars, taking into account criteria such as the suitability of the area where the library will be built, the location of the headman's office in the neighborhood, and whether it can serve the whole neighborhood. Work was started in the appropriate mukhtars.
