Continuing its human-oriented works in line with its goal of 'Accessible Capital', Ankara Metropolitan Municipality carries out special projects for disadvantaged groups in many fields from sports to art. EGO Sports Club and Snail and Nature Sports Club Association organized a swimming course for hearing-impaired children living in Başkent. Thanks to the free course given with special techniques and methods, 6 hearing-impaired children between the ages of 12-20 were introduced to swimming.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which introduced many activities from sports to art in order to include disadvantaged groups in social life in the capital, continues its human-oriented projects without slowing down.
EGO Sports Club, which has implemented new projects with the aim of "Accessible Capital", has recently organized a swimming course for hearing-impaired children in cooperation with the Snail and Nature Sports Club Association.
NATIONAL SWIMMERS WILL BE TRAINED
In the first phase, swimming lessons were started to be given to 6 hearing-impaired children aged 12-20 with special techniques and methods at the Bülent Ecevit Swimming Pool and Sports Facility as a pilot region.
EGO Sports Club President Taner Özgün stated that they aim to train national swimmers among hearing-impaired children with the project.
“Honestly, we didn't know that so many of our children were waiting for this project. We would like to thank our President Mansur Yavaş, who opened these horizons for us. So far, 70 of our children have applied. We would also like to thank Fethi Yaşar, Mayor of Yenimahalle, for giving us this opportunity. We want our children to socialize here, but we also think that we will have many children who will go to the national team. For us, those children do not have a disability, as long as we do not prevent them.”
Stating that they are as happy to share in the excitement of their families as the hearing-impaired children, Snail and Nature Sports Club Association President Gonca Ilerisoy expressed her thoughts, “First of all, we would like to thank our President Mansur and EGO Sports Club President Taner Özgün for touching the lives of these children. If these children know the President of Mansur, it is because he is a president that touched their lives at this age. I hope there will be a lot of children who go to the national team from here," he said.
SPECIAL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS ARE APPLIED
Sincan Family Life Center Swimming Coach Seda Artuç, who gives swimming lessons to children, stated that they use different methods and techniques and said, “We started swimming lessons for our hearing-impaired children. We will have lessons with our children on Wednesday and Friday. Since they are special children, we will do the lesson by agreeing with our mimics, gestures and hand movements.”
The hearing-impaired little ones from Başkent, who were introduced to water sports, as well as their families, expressed their thoughts on the lessons with the following words:
Ayşe Miray Akyol: “I'm 7 years old, it's my first time swimming and I'm very happy.”
Vusap Yamancioglu: “I'm so excited, my heart is pounding. I had never been to a swimming lesson before.”
Muhammed Talha Alakuş: “I'm excited, I love the pool very much.”
Berna Beytek Cetinbas: “My child is also deaf. I would like to thank the Snail Association, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş and EGO Sports Club President Taner Özgün. I am very happy to see my children like this.”
