Ankara City Council (AKK) Executive Board Chairman Halil İbrahim Yılmaz participated in the “Climate Change” program organized by the Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Labor Economics Research Group at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (İİBF) 100. Yıl Cultural Center.

Giving information about the importance of the EKO Climate Summit to be held at the ATO Congresium on March 30-31, 2022, Yılmaz invited all young people from the capital city to attend the summit.

AWARENESS PROGRAM ON MARCH 22 WORLD WATER DAY

Hacı Bayram Veli University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Kurtoğlu, Provincial Director of AFAD Soner Tüter, Deputy General Manager of Agricultural Credit Cooperatives Mehmet Yener, Head of Agricultural Environment and Natural Resources Protection Department Dr. Ali Kılıç, Head of Climate and Agricultural Meteorology Department Hikmet Eroğlu, TİGEM Agricultural Structures and Irrigation Chief Aynur Sümen and State Hydraulic Works experts showed great interest in the program.

In the program organized by Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Labor Economics Research Group (ÇEKAT) on 22 March World Water Day in order to raise awareness and awareness among university students about climate change, which has become a social problem in recent years, “Climate Change” and the measures to be taken were discussed. Making the opening speech of the program, Hacı Bayram Veli University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Kurtoğlu stated that they produced projects on environmental awareness and combating drought, and said:

“It is very important for our students to raise awareness by sharing this with their friends on an issue that is extremely important for the world, on a day that can be considered important for the world. In recent years, there has been rainwater harvesting in the world and in our country, and this issue is very important. It is necessary not to let the rains pouring down these days go in vain. Work has begun on the accumulation of rain water on the campus we are in, and it will save a lot of water.”

IMPORTANCE OF WATER RESOURCES

AKK Executive Board Chairman Halil İbrahim Yılmaz, who came together with the youth in the program, made the following evaluations:

“We do not have any other subject on World Water Day. Water is the fact of life, where there is no water there is nothing else. We have a responsibility to carry out the disappearance process of water with awareness. The Aral Sea is now concrete and disappeared. We have a responsibility today to ensure that Lake Eymir and Lake Mogan do not disappear in Ankara, and that they do not return to the Aral Sea after 10 years. My young friends are in a position to teach us about awareness, I speak for myself. I am not a teacher, I am a learner. In the surveys we conducted, we found that the environmental and climate awareness of young people is much higher than that of adults. One of the reasons why Mustafa Kemal Atatürk chose this city is that it is a city where solidarity, cohesion, protecting each other, common mind is institutionalized and returned to the state.

Emphasizing that they expect all young people to attend the EKO Climate Summit to be held at the ATO Congresium on March 30-31, 2022, Yılmaz continued his words as follows:

“We come from a feeling that there are young people who have been living in these lands with these feelings, which have environmental and climate awareness in the laws since 1537. This is a geography where all civilizations can live in harmony. We need to raise awareness in this geography. Ankara is the city of beginnings. We declared over Ankara that we should brand this feeling. Prejudices have been broken, camps have decreased. We said that this society can be the star of the world in the green transformation process. Let us direct our production style, our view of life and determine our view of life. If you come, you will be the subject of employment. Not only the Capital of culture and arts, but also of education. This summit is important for our city. This is a summit where we can take the place we deserve in the economy, and the prejudices of the countries with prejudices about the environment can be broken. We are fully waiting for you.”

The program, which was held with the participation of bureaucrats, academics, experts and university students from relevant public institutions and organizations, ended with the theatrical performance of Arslanköy Women's Theater Group under the direction of Ümmiye Koçak, titled "Mother, Sky Pierced".
