Carrying the title of “Turkey's first female veterinarian” became a Google Doodle. Born on February 1, 1910, Sabire Aydemir worked in many different parts of Anatolia. In 1984, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the recognition of women's right to vote and be elected, she was given an award and a plaque by the Turkish Grand National Assembly as the “First Female Veterinarian”.

In 2022, Google published a special doodle to commemorate Sabire Aydemir's 112th birthday.

WHO IS SABIR AYDEMIR?

Sabire Aydemir (Born on 1 February 1910 in Kastamonu – died on 4 July 1991 in Ankara); She is known as Turkey's first female veterinarian. She is one of the ten women who graduated from the Veterinary School in Ankara in 1937.

He was born on February 1, 1910 in İnebolu, Kastamonu. After completing his primary education here, he continued his secondary education in Istanbul. She graduated from Erenköy Girls' High School in 1933. She wanted to be a medical doctor. She changed her mind because they did not accept female students as boarding students at the Faculty of Medicine, so she enrolled in the Veterinary School, which accepted female students for the first time that year. She graduated from the Veterinary School in 1937.

After working in various laboratories for two years, he returned to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine as an assistant. He continued his duty at the Faculty until 1945. He worked as a bacteriologist veterinarian in health institutions such as Pendik Bacteriology and Research Institute in Istanbul and Etlik Veterinary Control and Research Institute in Ankara. He retired from the rabies laboratory within the Veterinary Control and Research Institute in Atakum, Samsun.

In 1984, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the recognition of women's right to vote and be elected, she was given an award and a plaque by the Turkish Grand National Assembly as the "First Female Veterinarian".

Sabire Aydemir speaks English and German; She was married and mother of two children. He died on July 4, 1991 in Ankara.

As a result of the evaluation made by the Turkish Veterinary Medical Association on April 30, 2016, Specialist Veterinarian Sabire AYDEMİR was awarded the "2016 TVHB Honor Award" for her outstanding services to the Veterinary Profession and for being the first female veterinarian in this profession.
