The portal of Hisararkası-İnağzı Tunnel belonging to the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) was closed due to the landslide that occurred yesterday, and a possible disaster was narrowly avoided in the incident that took place when the passenger train did not pass.

While TCDD announced that it stopped train services after the landslide that occurred in Kilimli district, 202, it turned out that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure responsible for Railways was warned against landslides that may occur in the regions where the railways are located throughout the province of Zonguldak, especially on the route where the incident occurred.

In the motion of the Zonguldak Deputy of the Republican People's Party, Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, on the subject on 22.04.2021, the Ministry drew attention to the questions whether there are current mappings to determine the active and potential landslide areas throughout the province and what kind of measures are taken against a possible disaster. In the dated reply, it was announced that “Works on the basis of safety and continuity of navigation are carried on with determination”.

Reminding that there was a landslide in the same railway region last year, Yavuzyılmaz said, "The effectiveness of the measures taken should be questioned and measures should be increased so that there is no disaster."

“On 09.04.2021, there was a landslide in the TCDD Kilimli Station Area, and the incident, which did not cause any loss of life, was easily avoided.

After the landslide in question, I asked the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure to respond to the number of active and potential landslide areas on the railway lines within the borders of Zonguldak Province, whether a current landslide susceptibility map was created throughout the province, the existence of sufficient and competent experts within the institution, and what measures were taken to prevent a disaster. In summary, in the reply given by Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu; Although it is said that 'Works based on the safety and continuity of navigation are carried out with determination and necessary precautions are taken', a similar event is experienced in the same region only 9 months later.

The landslides that have occurred consecutively in various places within the provincial borders of Zonguldak since 2021 are a warning.

Experts say that natural events that become more frequent and intensifying due to climate change will increase in the Black Sea Region.

For this reason, the effectiveness of the measures taken should be questioned and measures should be increased as soon as possible so that a disaster does not occur.

We will continue to follow the subject.”
