Emirates SkyCargo Awarded for Pharmaceutical Delivery Cold Chain Capacity

Named “The Safest Global Airline Partner” for the shipment of heat-sensitive drugs by SkyCell. Emirates SkyCargo has been selected as the “Safe Global Airline Partner” for the transport of heat-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments for 2021 by SkyCell, the leading global company that manufactures special containers for the transport of sensitive medicines by air. When giving this title to Emirates, SkyCell's global shipping data on pharmaceutical cargoes were taken into account. This data includes carriers ranked by multiple criteria, including stable shipping and temperature conditions across a range of destinations. The award validates Emirates SkyCargo's extensive cold chain infrastructure and capacity dedicated to pharmaceutical shipping, while demonstrating the company's ability to provide uninterrupted cold chain throughout the air freight process. For the past five years, the airfreight carrier has invested heavily in the development of EU GDP certified bespoke pharmaceutical shipping infrastructure at its headquarters, and has been working closely with ground handling partners at key worldwide destinations for pharmaceutical shipments to provide enhanced protection for heat-sensitive drug transport. Emirates has also invested in a fleet of more than 50 Refrigerated Luggage Vehicles dedicated to pharmaceutical cargoes for temperature protection on the Dubai ramp.

Emirates SkyCargo has been working with SkyCell since 2017 when it included SkyCell's temperature-controlled containers in its portfolio of container solutions offered to pharmaceutical customers. SkyCell containers use innovative technology to keep sensitive cargo at a constant temperature for several days, even in the most extreme temperatures. Emirates SkyCargo maintains a stock of special SkyCell containers in Dubai to be made available to global pharmaceutical companies very soon. In calendar year 2021, the total number of pharmaceutical lines using SkyCell containers by Emirates increased by over 30%. This increase has been in line with the increased transport rates of heat-sensitive drugs and vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic. In general, Emirates SkyCargo also uses SkyCell containers for flights between other destinations, primarily to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and Australia-Asia. Emirates SkyCargo is one of the world's leading companies in the transportation of pharmaceutical cargo by air, carrying an average of over 200 tons of medicines on its aircraft every day. The company has also transported 750 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines and thousands of tons of essential drug products and supplies across six continents to combat the epidemic. Emirates SkyCargo offers its customers cargo capacity with a fleet of modern, all-wide-body Boeing 140 and Airbus A777 aircraft serving more than 380 destinations around the world.
