The opening of İvrindi Nurettin Çarmıklı Mining Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which is the first in Turkey in order to meet the need for intermediate staff needed in the mining sector, was held with the participation of Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez.

Stating that the most concrete example of how the paradigm has changed in vocational education has been experienced, Özer said, “The biggest breaking point in the paradigm shift we have made in vocational and technical education lately is the participation of employers in all processes of vocational and technical education. We are now creating the curriculum in vocational and technical education with sector representatives. We update together. We plan the skills training of students in business with sector representatives.” he said.
Özer emphasized that they plan on-the-job and professional development trainings of vocational technical teachers together with the sector, and they only expect employment from sector representatives.

Most of the problems we deal with in the education system today are not the problems arising from the natural flow of the education system; problems caused by outside interference. Therefore, despite the interventions of the February 28 process, I am very happy to bring vocational education to the point of matching the needs of the country, and I am also happy to be a part of this process.”
“Vocational training center has become a very attractive model for employers”
Explaining that vocational education in Turkey has progressed to a very different process, especially with the amendment made in Law No. 3308 on vocational technical education, Özer continued his words as follows:
“With the change made, the employer does not pay 30 percent of the minimum wage each month, which is paid by the state, for the students who attend the school one day a week, the other days in the business, in the vocational training centers in the real environment. Therefore, the vocational training center has become a very attractive model for the employer. At the same time, the salary of the young people who became journeymen at the end of the 3rd year in the last year was also corrected and improved with this law change. Now journeymen will be paid half the minimum wage, not 3/1 of the minimum wage. All vocational training center students will be insured against work accidents and occupational diseases. The biggest feature of vocational training centers is that there is no age restriction. So, being a secondary school graduate is enough.”
Pointing out that the number of students in vocational education centers increased by 3308 thousand less than a month after the change in the Vocational Education Law No. 90 came into effect, Özer said, “In other words, while there are around 159 thousand students registered in vocational education centers, this number has exceeded 250 thousand at the moment. Our target in 2022, as emphasized by our President, is to introduce 1 million young people to the vocational training center. Thus, on the one hand, the labor market 'I can't find the employee I'm looking for.' We will have the opportunity to reduce the youth unemployment rates in Turkey to single digits, just as we have eliminated the excuse. Vocational education will no longer be a type of education that forms the agenda of Turkey with its problems, and it will turn into a type of education that meets the needs of the country on the one hand, and has a share in the economic development of the country and the increase in its welfare. Özer emphasized that they will continue to work day and night to mobilize all kinds of opportunities to not only develop Turkey, but also to become a leading country in its region, in the world, and to increase its human capital quality.
Reminding that they opened 50 R&D Centers in Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools, Özer said, “Since this school is the only school in the mining field with employment guarantee, we will establish the 51st R&D Center in the mining field here, and this school will not only provide education and training, but also AR-GE. -GE and innovative studies will contribute to the development of our country by focusing on patents, utility models, trademarks and design registrations in the mining field.” said.
Özer also explained that in 2022, 5 International Vocational Technical Anatolian High Schools will be established in Turkey.
