Turkey's First Mining High School Opened with the Participation of 2 Ministers

The opening of İvrindi Nurettin Çarmıklı Mining Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which is the first in Turkey in order to meet the need for intermediate staff needed in the mining sector, was held with the participation of Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez.

Mahmut Özer, Minister of National Education; Nurettin Çarmıklı expressed his satisfaction at the opening ceremony of the Mining Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which is the first in its field.

Stating that the most concrete example of how the paradigm has changed in vocational education has been experienced, Özer said, “The biggest breaking point in the paradigm shift we have made in vocational and technical education lately is the participation of employers in all processes of vocational and technical education. We are now creating the curriculum in vocational and technical education with sector representatives. We update together. We plan the skills training of students in business with sector representatives.” he said.

Özer emphasized that they plan on-the-job and professional development trainings of vocational technical teachers together with the sector, and they only expect employment from sector representatives.

“The issues that have been complained about for years in vocational and technical education are being resolved one by one”

Referring to the recent transformations in vocational and technical education, Özer said: “The issues that have been complained about for years in vocational and technical education are being resolved one by one. In fact, the problems we are experiencing are not the problems produced by the education system itself. We are grappling with the costs for Turkey of the coefficient implementation of the February 28 process in 1999. Most of the problems we deal with in the education system today are not the problems arising from the natural flow of the education system; problems caused by outside interference. Therefore, despite the interventions of the February 28 process, I am very happy to bring vocational education to the point of matching the needs of the country, and I am also happy to be a part of this process.”

“Vocational training center has become a very attractive model for employers”

Explaining that vocational education in Turkey has progressed to a very different process, especially with the amendment made in Law No. 3308 on vocational technical education, Özer continued his words as follows:

“With the change made, the employer does not pay 30 percent of the minimum wage each month, which is paid by the state, for the students who attend the school one day a week, the other days in the business, in the vocational training centers in the real environment. Therefore, the vocational training center has become a very attractive model for the employer. At the same time, the salary of the young people who became journeymen at the end of the 3rd year in the last year was also corrected and improved with this law change. Now journeymen will be paid half the minimum wage, not 3/1 of the minimum wage. All vocational training center students will be insured against work accidents and occupational diseases. The biggest feature of vocational training centers is that there is no age restriction. So, being a secondary school graduate is enough.”

Pointing out that the number of students in vocational education centers increased by 3308 thousand less than a month after the change in the Vocational Education Law No. 90 came into effect, Özer said, “In other words, while there are around 159 thousand students registered in vocational education centers, this number has exceeded 250 thousand at the moment. Our target in 2022, as emphasized by our President, is to introduce 1 million young people to the vocational training center. Thus, on the one hand, the labor market 'I can't find the employee I'm looking for.' We will have the opportunity to reduce the youth unemployment rates in Turkey to single digits, just as we have eliminated the excuse. Vocational education will no longer be a type of education that forms the agenda of Turkey with its problems, and it will turn into a type of education that meets the needs of the country on the one hand, and has a share in the economic development of the country and the increase in its welfare. It is advancing rapidly on this path.” made its assessment.

“We will establish the 51st R&D Center in mining here”

Özer emphasized that they will continue to work day and night to mobilize all kinds of opportunities to not only develop Turkey, but also to become a leading country in its region, in the world, and to increase its human capital quality.

Reminding that they opened 50 R&D Centers in Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools, Özer said, “Since this school is the only school in the mining field with employment guarantee, we will establish the 51st R&D Center in the mining field here, and this school will not only provide education and training, but also AR-GE. -GE and innovative studies will contribute to the development of our country by focusing on patents, utility models, trademarks and design registrations in the mining field.” said.

Özer also explained that in 2022, 5 International Vocational Technical Anatolian High Schools will be established in Turkey.

After the speeches, Minister Özer presented a plaque to Nurol Holding Deputy Chairman Mehmet Oğuz Çarmıklı. TÜMAD Madencilik gold and silver mining operation was opened by establishing a live connection.

After the ribbon was cut, Nurettin Çarmıklı Mining Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School was visited, Minister Özer and Minister Dönmez met with students. sohbet He.

Governor Hasan Şıldak, Metropolitan Mayor Yücel Yılmaz, AK Party Balıkesir Deputy Mustafa Canbey, mine field operators, teachers and students of the school attended the ceremony.

The school laboratory, which cost approximately 1 million liras, is the first in Turkey.

The mining laboratory at the school, which costs approximately 1 million liras, is also the first in Turkey. This is a laboratory with characteristics similar to those found in mining sites.

In the high school, where only theoretical education will not take place, students will learn by touching and feeling the natural riches of Turkey. Students, who will take lessons from teachers and the leading names of the sector, will apply their knowledge by living in the mines. Thus, the graduates of the high school will be raised both as "reasonable" and "schooled".

Internship and employment opportunities

The high school, where 144 students are currently studying, will prepare 544 students for the mines when it becomes operational at full capacity. Companies operating in the mining field in the region will also provide internship and employment opportunities to students. The school, where the new heroes of the mining industry, which broke the export record of the history of the republic last year, will be raised, is expected to meet an important need.
