Is Menopause Making History?

The World Health Organization defines menopause as the permanent cessation of the menstrual cycle as a result of the ovaries losing their activity. The age of menopause is 45-55 years worldwide. Although studies show that the average age of menopause in Turkey is 46-48, it is beneficial to take a step before the age of 35 for a healthy pregnancy. Because after the age of 35, the reproductive capacity of women decreases rapidly.

Do it in a Baby Do it in a Career!

“Especially in the last century, the rate of women's participation in working life has been increasing rapidly. Due to this participation, women postpone their plans to have children until later ages and sometimes it may be too late when they decide to have a baby," said Gynecology Obstetrics and IVF Specialist Op. Dr. Elçim Bayrak made important statements.

“Women postpone having children from pursuing a career, and sometimes receive bad news from us about their reproductive capacity when they refer to a specialist at an advanced age. When women freeze their eggs while pursuing career goals, they also freeze time for their reproductive capacity and take an important step towards becoming a mother. This gives positive results both in business life and in bilateral relations. Because women who freeze their eggs gain time to start a family, while also getting the chance to plan for other goals in life.” said.

Women's and Men's Hours Don't Move at the Same Speed!

“As soon as girls are born, they say hello to life with an average of one and a half million egg cells. From the moment they are born, they spend these eggs before puberty, during puberty, during pregnancy and puerperium.” said Op. Dr. Elçim Bayrak continued as follows. “The first question that comes to the minds of women who have reached the age of 35 and have no children is what are the conditions that prevent them from getting pregnant. In modern age women, the desire to be a mother is not more dominant than the desire to make a career. For this reason, it is very important for our women, who run from success to success in business life, to put the issue of egg freezing on their agenda before it is too late and without delaying their career life. Since men's biological clocks run slower and longer than women's, men do not need to rush unless there are extreme situations. "Women who freeze their eggs not only gain time in terms of reproductive capacity, but also know that they have a chance to have children in the future, so they are not affected much by environmental pressure."

Is It Possible to Freeze Eggs in Turkey?

Talking about the current legal situations in our country, Op. Dr. Elçim Bayrak also stated the following; “While it was technically not legally possible to freeze eggs for single women who want to postpone their child plans in our country in the past years, this issue has been made applicable within certain limits with the development of medicine and new regulations. Freezing and storing reproductive cells while they are healthy protects individuals from many risks. Frozen cells can be stored in liquid nitrogen for years in a tank at minus 195 degrees Celsius. The legal limit for this period in Turkey is 5 years. At the end of this period, it is possible to extend the period if individuals who still meet the freezing conditions apply.
