The Ministry of National Education has expanded the scope of the regulation that allows students with mild intellectual disability or mild autism spectrum disorder to take the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) for those who graduate from special education vocational schools, thereby increasing the access to university of both former graduates and special education vocational training center graduates. paved the way.

With the Special Education Services Regulation published in 2018, the name of special education vocational training centers was changed to special education vocational school.

In recent years, the Ministry of National Education, which has implemented a significant transformation by implementing many projects in vocational education, published the Regulation on the Amendment of the Special Education Services Regulation, which allows special education vocational school graduates to enter the university exam, in July 2021.

The Ministry of National Education has expanded the scope of this regulation and opened the door to the university for those who have a special education vocational school diploma before July 2021 and those who have a special education vocational training center education certificate. Graduates of these schools will now be able to apply to YKS.

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that they continue their efforts to facilitate the lives of the disabled and that they want to make positive contributions to the full participation of disabled people in social life.

Stating that 186 students with mild intellectual disability or mild autism spectrum disorder were given education in 13.673 professional vocational schools, Özer said:

“The graduates of these schools did not have the opportunity to enter higher education and could not continue higher education. In July, we made an improvement and as of 2021, we allowed those who have a special education vocational school diploma to enter the university. We have taken a new step in this regard and provided the opportunity to enter the university for those who have a “special education vocational training center education certificate” and a “special education vocational school diploma” before the publication of the Regulation amendment.”
