Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, announced that the electronic communications sector achieved a great success by growing by 2021 percent in the first half of 18,8. Stating that the number of mobile subscribers has exceeded 84,6 million, Karaismailoğlu emphasized that internet usage has increased by 62 percent in a year.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the opening of the Turkcell European Data Center. Noting that the transportation and communication sectors are at the center of life socially and economically, Karaismailoğlu said that the change in these two sectors affected all sectors and paved the way for the emergence of new business and life models.
Karaismailoğlu said, "Which countries develop and popularize technology, those countries take important steps towards economic independence," said Karaismailoğlu, adding that Turkey has taken very important steps towards national independence and national economy in the last 19 years, and that this approach continues to achieve successful results in the field of technology.
Emphasizing that as the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, they always prioritize "domestic" and "national" approaches in the fields of informatics, communication and communication, as in all transportation modes, Karaismailoğlu stated that they have signed important projects that will increase the living standards of citizens in this direction.
THE NUMBER OF 4G USERS IS EXPECTED TO BE 5 BILLION IN 1 YEARS
Touching on 5G technology, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “The information and data that give its name to the era we live in adds strength to the power of the people, institutions and countries that have it. 5G is one of these technologies. In this context, since 5G is the key point of advanced technologies and data security, it is an issue that all developed and developing countries follow closely and work on. Many countries in the world and Europe are working on commissioning the commercial 5G service after 5G trials. The number of users using 4G is expected to reach 5 billion in the next 1 years.
93% OF MOBILE SUBSCRIBERS SWITCHED TO 4.5G
Reminding that 4.5G service started in Turkey in 2016, Karaismailoğlu said that both the infrastructure became widespread throughout the country and the subscribers started to benefit from this service immediately. Karaismailoğlu said, “83,6 million of our currently 78,5 million mobile subscribers are 4.5G subscribers. It is a great success that 5 percent of total mobile subscribers have switched to 93G in the past 4.5 years, and it is an indication that technologies such as 5G in the future can rapidly become widespread in our country.
WE ARE TAKING CONFIDENT STEPS TO SWITCH TO 5G TECHNOLOGY WITH DOMESTIC AND NATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Pointing out that the collection, processing and conversion of data into value-added services, as well as its storage, backup and protection from all kinds of disasters and cyber attacks, are of great importance in terms of both personal data and national security, Karaismailoğlu continued his speech as follows:
“As the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, we are based on using the advantages of information and communication technologies for the welfare and happiness of people. We are working hard to spread information and communication technologies, which we are sensitive to the development of domestic and national. As you know, we have determined as our main goal to gradually increase the local rate of investments in our investments. In this respect, we make our plans for 5G technologies by prioritizing our domestic and national opportunities. Within the scope of End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Project; We develop critical network hardware and software specific to 5G technology, such as 5G Base Station, 5G Core Network, 5G operational and administrative software. The first phase of the project was completed by the end of March this year, the R&D processes were completed, the prototypes of the products were prepared. I can clearly say this; We are taking firm steps forward to switch to 5G technology with domestic and national opportunities.”
MOBILE SUBSCRIBER NUMBER EXCEEDED 84,6 MILLION
Noting that the electronic communications sector in Turkey has achieved a great success by growing by 2021 percent in the first half of 18,8, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu made the following assessments:
“Within the transportation and communication investments we made throughout the country between 2003 and 2021, a large amount of over 92 billion TL was important for the development of the communication sector. Our fiber line length from 88 thousand kilometers to 445 thousand kilometers; We increased our fixed broadband subscribers to 17,4 million. While the number of fiber subscribers in fixed infrastructures was 2010 thousand in 154, it has increased to 4,3 million today. While the number of our mobile subscribers was 2010 million in 28, it has exceeded 84,6 million today. The number of broadband subscribers reached 85,7 million. While the number of our communication subscribers between machines was 2001 million 1 thousand in 56, it is 7 million today. While all these positive developments were experienced, the average tariff fee of our mobile operators, which was 10 cents per minute 8,6 years ago, has decreased to 1,3 cents today. The amount of internet usage increased by 39 percent in fixed and 31 percent in mobile on an annual basis compared to the same period of the previous year.
INTERNET USE INCREASED 62 PERCENT IN ONE YEAR
Emphasizing that the number of subscribers in fiber internet increased by 2021 percent in the first quarter of 25 compared to the same period of the previous year, and exceeded 4,2 million, Karaismailoğlu gave the following information about internet usage:
“While internet usage was at the level of 2020 million TBytes in the first quarter of 7,3, this value was approximately 2021 million TBytes in the same period of 11,8. The annual rate of increase was 62 percent. The monthly internet traffic per subscriber, which was 2020 GB in mobile in the first quarter of 7,6, increased to approximately 2021 GB in the same period of 9,8, and from 138,6 GB to 197,2 GB in fixed. Various projects, including the establishment and operation of communication infrastructures for providing mobile voice and broadband internet services to rural settlements with a population of less than 500, where infrastructure cannot be provided by the operators due to economic and geographical difficulties, have been implemented by our Ministry.”
“WE WILL CONTINUE WORKING WITH OUR STRENGTH FOR BETTER SERVICE”
Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “We will continue to work with all our strength to serve the citizens better and add new ones to these achievements”.
“We have reached significant figures in e-government gateway services, which is an important criterion in Turkey's transition to an information society. As of September 2021, 56 thousand 300 services from 816 institutions are provided to 5 million 949 thousand registered citizens. A total of 2021 billion transactions were carried out in the first 8 months of 5.5 on the e-Government Gateway.”
TRANSITION TO DIGITALIZATION ACCELERATED
Underlining that the pandemic has caused countries to increase their investments in the information and communication sector, Karaismailoğlu stated that the world's transition to digitalization has accelerated significantly. Expressing that the countries that prepared themselves for this process, developed their infrastructures and took the necessary steps were profitable, Karaismailoğlu emphasized that Turkey also entered a growth trend despite the difficult pandemic process.
Noting that Turkey, which grew by 2021 percent in the first quarter of 7, achieved a growth rate of 21,7 percent in the second quarter, Karaismailoğlu said, "The contribution of our public-private sector cooperation in the information and communication sector in this growth trend is great."
CYBER SECURITY HIGHLIGHT: 'TURKEY'S DATA MUST STAY IN TURKEY'
Touching on the importance of cyber security, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu made the following assessments:
“As we stated in the National Cyber Security Strategy Document, we evaluate cyber security within the scope of national security. Because the issue of protecting data and data privacy has become an issue of great importance on the international arena. We are aware of the importance of data with all our institutions and organizations! Based on the view that 'Turkey's data should stay in Turkey', it is extremely important that our institutions make their investments with this approach! 'Domestic data center' investments are indispensable for the privacy of the data of our country, our citizens and businesses that produce value for this country. One of the 2020 important strategic objectives we have stated in the 2023-8 Action Plan of our Strategy Document is to 'protect critical infrastructures and increase resilience'.
THE DATA CENTER'S LOCALITY RATE OF 75% IS A VALUABLE DEVELOPMENT
Karaismailoğlu stated that it is vital to store and back up data against all kinds of natural disasters and physical and cyber attacks in the information and communication sector, and concluded his words as follows:
“In this sense, Turkcell's European Data Center is a strong and redundant technology investment. The fact that the locality rate of the Data Center is around 75 percent is a valuable development. Our data center, designed and built to withstand earthquakes of magnitude 9, is extremely important in terms of information redundancy and security of data centers in Ankara, Izmir and Gebze. It should not be forgotten that these dizzying developments in the information and communication sector serve our people to communicate much more quickly, comfortably and uninterruptedly. This service becomes even more important in natural disasters. As you may remember, we took action quickly to meet the increasing mobile communication traffic in the Region during the flood and fire disasters we experienced very recently. We put the additional mobile communication infrastructures needed into service in a very short time.”
