Proving itself in the Air Defense System solutions it has developed to date, Roketsan, in addition to the performance of the newly developed Close Air Defense System (YHSS) LEVENT, and the SUNGUR System, which was developed to meet the needs of land elements and entered the mass production phase, and the successes achieved in land vehicle application, Work has begun on new system and missile solutions to meet the close air defense needs of the Naval Forces Command.
The Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, Presidency of Defense Industries and STM Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc. Within the scope of the contract for the Turkish Type Assault Boat (TTHB), which was signed in August 2020, after the design work to be carried out in the first 24 months, prototype production will be carried out in the second 30-month period. The "Close Air Defense System" is defined in the weapon configuration requirements of the Turkish Type Assault Boat to be designed within the scope of the signed contract.
The national solution LEVENT, which was developed to meet the needs of the Turkish Type Towing Boat YHSS, will be developed by Roketsan in accordance with the requests of the Naval Forces Command within the YHSS TTHB calendar, which can operate both autonomously and integrated with ship sensor systems.
The system to be developed will be achieved by using the know-how, technological infrastructure and subsystem technologies that Roketsan has gained in air defense missile systems. The system, which will be developed with sensor technologies (search head, RF sensors, proximity sensors) developed within the scope of air defense projects, will have high efficiency especially against surface targets at high supersonic speeds and long ranges. YHSS will have the infrastructure to launch close air defense missiles as well as SUNGUR missiles. The ability to launch different missiles through a single weapon system will be an important gain in the strike force capacity and flexibility of the Naval Forces Command.
LEVENT, which will be developed by Roketsan, will have manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic modes. The integration and usage concept of the system on the ship will be shaped according to the preferences of the Naval Forces Command, and there will be system solutions that are directly integrated into the onboard combat management system or that have a separate firing console and include both alternatives.
