Volkswagen's Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Diess, said they needed to change their approach to electric vehicle (EV) sales in China, the world's largest auto market.

“Sales are increasing but require focus and different approaches as customers for electric cars are much younger and different from the customer base we have with more traditional brands like Volkswagen in China,” Diess told reporters after the first half results were announced.

By the end of the year, Volkswagen wants to sell between 80 and 100 all-electric ID series in China. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) deliveries in China in the first half amounted to 18.285.

“We realize we need to change our approach,” Diess said.
