Lion Fish Hunting Competition is Held in Antalya

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality will organize an award-winning lionfish hunting competition on Sunday, July 11 at 07.00 at the Variant EKDAĞ Social Facilities on the Konyaaltı Beach in order to combat the invasive species of lionfish.

The competition, organized by a municipality for the first time in Turkey, aims to bring edible poisonous lionfish to the economy and raise awareness.

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality organizes events to contribute to the protection of biodiversity and marine ecosystem by combating the poisonous lionfish that spreads by reaching our coasts from the Red Sea through the Suez Canal and harms the resident species and marine ecosystem.

VARIANT AT EKDAĞ FACILITIES

In this context, the Metropolitan Municipality Marine and Coastal Management Branch Directorate will hold a Spear Fishing Lion Fishing Competition on Sunday, July 11 at 07.00 at the Variant EKDAĞ Social Facilities on the Konyaaltı Beach. At the end of the competition organized for the first time in Turkey by a municipality, the lion fish caught will be tasted.

TEAMS CAN APPLY

Those who want to participate in the award-winning competition can apply to the Metropolitan Municipality Marine and Coastal Management Branch (0 242 249 54 99). Teams of three people can apply for the competition. Each team will consist of a boat operator (boat captain), chaser and freediver (hunter/harpoon).

REPORT WILL BE SUBMITTED

During the application, it will be sufficient for the competitors to submit a report of "can dive" or "swimming is okay" from their family doctor or equivalent health institution and fill in the competition application form. Commercial fishermen with Fisheries License Permit will not be able to participate in the competition.

At the end of the competition, awards will be given in the category of the number of lion fish caught and the biggest lion fish caught.
