Speaking at the Konak Municipality Neighborhood Centers Year-End Exhibition, where Konak women exhibit their handicraft productions, Mayor Batur said, “Konak Municipality is a woman-friendly municipality and is proud of it. We are grateful to our women,” she said.

Beautiful handicraft products produced by the women registered in the district centers of Konak Municipality, numbering fifteen, were crowned with the year-end exhibition held in Kemeraltı Abacıoğlu Han. Konak Mayor Abdül Batur, city council members, Konak Women's Enterprise Production Cooperative members, headmen and district center trainees attended the event, which consisted of an exhibition, mini fashion show and dance show held in the historical building of Kemeraltı Kitchen, run by Konak Municipality. President Batur, who made the opening speech after the mini fashion show in which the dresses made by the women themselves were exhibited, said, “The pandemic could not stop or intimidate our women. They produced in their homes, they came to our neighborhood centers as much as the restrictions allowed and they revealed these beautiful works. The woman who produces is the woman who can always stand. Konak Municipality is a woman-friendly municipality that is proud of it. We are grateful to our women,” she said.

Despite the pandemic, they produced

Mayor Batur congratulated the women who contributed to the Konak Municipality Neighborhood Centers Year-End Exhibition and participated in the exhibition with the works they produced despite the pandemic. Emphasizing that they will make the courses in the district centers more active, President Batur said, “If our women, who have been trying to produce something in their homes during the pandemic that has been going on for one and a half years and closed everyone to their homes, have reached the point where they can hold the year-end event today, it means that they have not given up and continued the struggle. In this process, as Konak Municipality, we tried to open our courses according to the opening and closing decisions and the calendar given to us by the state. “From now on, we will make our courses more active.”

Production will turn into profit

President Batur, who also heralded that they have completed the establishment of the Women's Cooperative and the preparations that will transform the production of women in the district centers into income, continued his words as follows:

“We have completed our preparations for studies that will especially contribute to the home economy. Our Konak Women's Enterprise Production Cooperative, which we officially established on March 8, International Women's Day, set off. We will implement a system that has not been tried before. We will be working on the return of the works you produce with your efforts as a contribution to the home economy. Our women will produce at home, and we will market this production. We will give sales places to our cooperative in the most beautiful places of Konak, and your sweat and handicraft products will contribute to your home economy at these points. We also got the result of the work we carried out together with the Izmir Business Women's Association. We gave a straight stitch, hemming and overlock machine operator course to 30 women in our Aziziye District Center, and this course was job-guaranteed. The courses are over, our women have started to work. From now on, we will carry out such studies and ensure continuity. ”

If the woman is standing, the country is also standing.

Stating that they will continue to work that supports women, evaluates women's production, and keeps women alive, especially economically, President Batur concluded his speech with the following words:

“The survival of women means the survival of the country. Although they abolished the Istanbul Convention overnight, we will continue to maintain our understanding of condemning violence against women with hatred. The woman who produces is the woman who can always stand. Konak Municipality is a woman-friendly municipality that is proud of it. From now on, we will do much better, higher quality work together. Our greatest ideal is to get women out of their homes and make them productive.”

Exhibition of production and labor

After the mini fashion show where the women exhibited the dresses they sewed, the Konak Municipality Neighborhood Centers Year-End Exhibition was visited. The works of women from Konak, who exhibited the handicraft products they produced in their homes during the pandemic process, were eye-catching. Handcrafted products such as wire breaking, amigurumi, jewelry design and embroidery were highly appreciated. One of the most striking parts of the exhibition was the Atatürk Corner, which expresses the Turkish Women's respect for the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
