Adapazarı-Istanbul train services, known as Adapazarı Express, were stopped due to the pandemic. Recently, flights have started for 9 stations, in the form of Istanbul (Pendik) - Mithatpaşa. However, train services for Adapazarı station have not started. Thereupon, CHP Party Assembly Member and Kocaeli Deputy Tahsin Tarhan submitted a parliamentary question to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

“Why are train services being reduced?”

Tarhan, who gave a question to the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu regarding the status of Adapazarı Train Station: “In 2010, the train stopped at 31 stations between Haydarpaşa and Adapazarı, made 24 trips a day and worked at full capacity. They dropped both the active train stations and the train services, with all kinds of excuses. It is unclear whether the stations will be operational again. Today, a person who wants to travel by train on this route can only travel between Istanbul (Pendik) and Mithatpaşa. Due to the fact that Derbent, Köseköy, Kırkikievler and Tütünçiftlik train stations are still out of service, citizens are complaining. Someone going to Adapazarı, or someone going to the districts at the stations that are not currently in operation, needs to use another vehicle. The train stops at 9 stations and only makes 10 trips a day. It is also not operating at full capacity and the number of wagons has been reduced from 7 to 4. However, in these train services, people used to go standing because they could not find a place. Despite this, what is the purpose of reducing train services?” said.

“No one has the right to hinder the citizen's right to easy transportation!”

Drawing attention to the victimization of the citizens on the subject, Tarhan said: “What is it that you can't take with the Adapazarı Express? Removing train services does not help anyone or anything! The damage is great. The shopkeepers cannot sell, they want the train stations at the intermediate stops to be operational again. There is already a rail system, but since the activities of many stations are stopped, the citizens cannot easily access from where they are and become victims. A few vehicles have to change. What's the point of making it harder when it's going to make it easier? With this understanding, our cities are going backwards rather than forwards. Thus, the traffic problem does not end, it increases even more. It is not possible to understand this mentality that tries to direct people to individual vehicles when there is cheap, safe and easy transportation. While the population in the region was 500 thousand, the train was making 24 trips, today the population is 1 million but only 10 trips. There is no logical explanation for this! Train services should be increased as soon as possible, train stations should start operating and trains should operate at full capacity. No one has the right to hinder the citizen's right to easy transportation!” said.
