The winners of the “BİLGİ Cup eSailing 21” event organized by Istanbul Bilgi University Sailing Club on the online sailing racing platform “Virtual Regatta” have been announced. Sailing lovers competed in the game “VR-Inshore” registered by the World Sailing Federation in the competition, which was held with the participation of 22 athletes from 7 universities and 75 high schools from all over the world.

Due to the coronavirus, which is increasing day by day in the world and in our country, sports events have been moved to online platforms. Accordingly, Istanbul Bilgi University Sailing Club organized the international esports competition “BİLGİ Cup eSailing 21” via the online sailing racing platform “Virtual Regatta”.

Students from all over the world competed

The race in the two-day University of California (UCLA), South Carolina University, Universite de Nice Côte D'Azur, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Dokuz Eylul, Bosphorus, Yeditepe and Stars of Turkey such as the University and around the students participated in the world . A total of 22 athletes from 7 universities and 75 high schools registered for the competition. 12 of these athletes attracted attention as high school and 63 as university students. The game "VR-Inshore", the game played in the competition, was a game approved and registered by the World Sailing Federation and federations of many countries.

The races were broadcast live all over the world over the accounts of eSailingTV, one of the world's leading official esports live broadcast channels. In his speech, the publisher's CEO Thomas Bjørn-Lüthi said, “We are delighted to meet you at the BİLGİ Cup. This tournament is of great importance as it is the first university tournament held worldwide. As eSailingTV, which is an institution that interprets the world championships, local national races of countries, and the Americas Cup races, we are excited to take part in a university tournament for the first time.

Racing was the winner of the universities in Turkey

The winner of the races was Kaan Mazlumca from Sabancı University. Helly Hansen Polar and Sport Works 200 TL gift vouchers were given to the winner. Helly Hansen Polar and Sport Works 100 TL gift vouchers were presented to Umut Efe Alpkoçak, a student of Istanbul Technical University who came in second. The third winner of the race was Yaşar Doğa Arıbaş, a graduate of İstanbul Bilgi University. Helly Hansen Polar was gifted to him.
