Biometric Data Management System Project (AFIS)

The Directorate General of Migration Management switched to the local fingerprint recognition system, which is the first phase of the project, on March 26, 2021. According to the data of the Directorate General of Migration Management, more than 81 thousand inquiries were made in 30 provinces and more than 6 thousand new records were received. In addition, the obligation to report 18 thousand asylum applications was fulfilled by printing fingerprints. The domestic fingerprint identification system, which is the first product of the Biometric Data Management System Project, will be used to speed up forensic examination, identification and authentication processes and increase their reliability. The system will then be available to the units of the Criminal Department of the General Directorate of Security and the Criminal Department of the Gendarmerie General Command.

In the National Biometric Data Management System Project, besides the qualified and unqualified fingerprint recognition system, features such as palm recognition, retina and iris recognition, face recognition, voice recognition, writing and signature recognition will also be included. Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to establish a central “national biometric data center” where biometric data will be collected, digitized and verified.
