Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the new railway line, which is planned to provide transportation between the mainland of the country and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic via Armenia.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Ilham Aliyev noted that the railway has a great strategic importance: “First of all, this railway will be of great importance for the transportation of the citizens to the liberated land and the transportation of goods. On the other hand, this railway will go to Nakhchivan. The Joint Statement, signed on 10 November, contains a special provision regarding the establishment of the Nakhchivan Corridor. This work has already begun. I am sure that this project we started will be implemented. After a long hiatus, Azerbaijan and its integral part Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic will be connected to each other by rail, thus achieving our strategic, economic and political goals. "
President Aliyev said that the 100 km long railway line is of great strategic importance, this transportation infrastructure will play an important role in ensuring the travel of Azerbaijani citizens to the liberated land and the most important issue will contribute to the establishment of direct rail transport link between the mainland of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan Autonomy.
