Continuing its investments in robot technologies and advanced mobility, Hyundai Motor Group is preparing to put into mass production the high-end mobility vehicle (UMV) concept, which it unveiled two years ago at the CES Consumer Electronics Fair, under the name of TIGER (Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot). The technological robot is developed by Hyundai Motor Group's New Horizons Studio company in California, USA.

The intelligent robot, which has superior abilities, will be used in hard-to-reach lands and difficult natural conditions. Built on a modular platform, TIGER has a very useful leg and wheel system. Thanks to this specially capable motion system, the robot can perform 360-degree direction control and also uses special sensors for remote observation. In addition, TIGER can also be connected to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in order to be fully charged and increase movement commands in hard-to-reach places.

The robot has a relatively large load compartment in its body. Thus, it can step in for urgent delivery or material transport to difficult areas. While the legs can step like a human, as soon as the surface is leveled, it starts to use the wheels like a vehicle. However, since this special leg system can move more competently than even the most ambitious and performance off-road vehicle, it can pass through steep cliffs, deep holes and steep slopes without getting stuck.

Developed on the basis of the Hyundai Elevate concept, the robot can reach the optimum speed through its wheels in addition to walking. The only difference with the Elevate robot is that one can carry loads and the other people. These robots, which are planned to be used for cargo transportation and emergency response for now, will continue to appear in areas such as human transportation and air transportation in the future.
