ÇAĞLAR: "WE ARE TRYING TO CREATE AN ACCESSIBLE ISTANBUL"

Making the opening speech of the workshop, IMM Secretary General Can Akın Çağlar stated that when Istanbul is mentioned, transportation comes to mind first and the biggest demands and complaints of citizens in this area, “7,5 days a year pass on the roads. In addition to creating traffic and time loss, transportation also affects the environment. We want the workshop to be very efficient and to be concluded in the fastest way possible. "We expect a superior effort from this team."

Stating that although rubber-wheeled vehicles are at the forefront in Istanbul, they attach great importance to the development of rail systems and maritime transportation as the management, continuing his words as follows:

“Our President Ekrem İmamoğluAs stated by , it is very important that we create an accessible Istanbul. In addition to the easy access of our people everywhere, we are working to provide unhindered transportation opportunities for our mothers with children and disadvantaged groups. In this context, our very important rail system investments continue for the development of subways. Considering our 400-kilometer coastline, I would like to point out that 3% of the sea transportation is neglected. This workshop is also very important in terms of using the sea more in transportation. I believe that our Master Plan work will be a great service that will shape the next 10 years of Istanbul.”

DEMİR: "PANDEMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECT IS VERY IMPORTANT"

Deputy Secretary General for Transportation and Environment İbrahim Orhan Demir stated that the plan is a long-term study and that the most important issue determining the elements of transportation is the use of the land. Demir stated that the transportation infrastructure should be shaped accordingly by predicting what shape Istanbul will take 20 years later while making the plan.

“We knew how Istanbul behaved in transportation until the pandemic process. We were able to analyze the axes of the trips, their costs, private vehicle or public transportation choices. Unfortunately, all of these habits changed with the epidemic. Another challenge is drought due to climate change. Therefore, fuel types will change and autonomous vehicles will develop. We will talk about things we have never talked about before. Our job is really hard for this. We have to work very carefully and base our data on scientific studies. However, I think we can easily overcome this job with this experienced team. "

FACT: "OUR PLAN SHOULD ADAPT TO THE FUTURE"

IBB Transportation Platform Advisory Board Member Prof. Dr. Haluk Gerçek pointed out that due to the rapid and unplanned development of cities, it is very difficult to meet the transportation master plans in our country, and said that instead, the sustainable urban mobility plan gained more moisture. “Many things in the future will not be as we planned. Asking how our models will be reflected in the future ”, Gerçek emphasized that the environmental impact changes of the models should also be taken into account, and the plans that were created in the past should be reviewed according to these realities. Stating that the smart city application should be applications that facilitate the life of the people living in the city and increase the quality of life, he stated that it is not right to try to adapt the city to smart city technology.

At the meeting, the Transportation Master Master Plan was presented by IMM Deputy Transportation Planning Manager Melda Horoz. In the workshop, which consisted of two combinations, the topics of "Expectations Regarding the Transportation Master Plan" and "Determining Forward Steps" were discussed.
