Alstom implemented the APS system, a ground-fed uninterrupted power supply system, on the Eminönü-Alibeyköy tram line. The tram line, whose 1 km section between Cibali and Alibeyköy was opened on January 2021, 9, will be a unique signature of the Istanbul rail system network in terms of innovation, environmental, aesthetic and historical values.

APS applied for the first time with the tram system providing power from the catenary system rather than street level and situated conductor section is provided by means of a ray of energy supply in Turkey. Conductive sections are only activated when they are fully covered by the tram and provide complete safety for pedestrians and other road users. The energy is received by the running shoes located under the vehicle in the central bogie of the tram.

Alstom Middle East and Turkey General Manager of Mama Sougoufar on "Innovative and quite happy to see that part of Istanbul's cityscape our sustainable solutions. In addition to the ground-fed APS system, we provide related on-board equipment for 30 tram vehicles produced by a local company for the Eminönü-Alibeyköy tram line. This is an indication of how adaptable our system is. The system will be a unique signature of the Istanbul rail system network in terms of innovation, environmental, aesthetic and historical values ”.

APS helps preserve the beauty of the urban environment while ensuring the same performance as overhead cruise lines. APS-powered trams may also include overhead line equipment and / or traction batteries that provide simple and easy switching between power sources. If a line is extended, the APS system can easily be extended along with this line.

In 2014, Alstom delivered and commissioned the world's first 100 percent catenary-free tram system in Dubai, UAE. The system is currently in operation in seven cities on three continents, with APS-powered trams covered approximately 38 million kilometers.

Alstom has been operating for over 60 years in Turkey. The Istanbul office serves as a Regional Center for the AMECA (Africa, Middle East and Central Asia) region and for Alstom Digital Mobility (ADM) and System and Infrastructure projects. The activities of the Regional Center include proposal management, project management, engineering, sourcing, training and maintenance services and other services.
