Under the auspices of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last year, under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the General Directorate of Forestry, the 'Breath for the Future' campaign launched this year, on November 11, in 81 provinces, saplings met the soil at the same time.
In this context, a ceremony was held in Erzurum in accordance with the pandemic rules with the participation of Governor Okay Memiş, Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Mehmet Sekmen, Chief Public Prosecutor Burhan Bölükbaşı, TEMA Foundation Erzurum Provincial Representative Işıl Bedirhanoğlu and institution directors.
Each year, 11 saplings planted on the southern part of Palandöken Ski Track as part of the 'National Afforestation Day' celebrations on November 2 will be a breath of the future. A total of 500 thousand 20 saplings in 19 locations, including the province of Erzurum and its districts, met with the soil with the participation of the protocol and Regional Directorate of Forestry teams.
Making a short speech before the ceremony held in Palandöken, Erzurum Governor Okay Memiş expressed his satisfaction with the afforestation works.
Pointing out that the numbers targeted at Palandöken are not a dream, Governor Memiş said, “The project I have dreamed of today has come true. Palandöken is a blessing for us. We are on the south runway now. We should not leave one square meter of space in these areas. Everywhere in our country is beautiful, but everyone wants to ski in the area with trees. Of course, trees are not easy to hold. In 5-10 years, a beautiful woodland will form in this area. We planted trees in various places and 80 percent of them kept. Of course, when there was not a single tree on Palandöken Mountain in 94 before us, it became a forest in 2020. We are working on the same route. Our goal is 2 million in 1 years, but we are determined to bring at least 5 million saplings to the soil. This is not a dream. We will not leave a square meter of treeless area on the route where the gondola goes. The view I saw here today made me very happy. God bless everyone who contributed, ”he said.
After the speeches, the Governor Okay Memis and the protocol for a greener Turkey Palandöken Mountain planting a sapling, he contributed to the reforestation activities. After the ceremony, Governor Okay Memiş examined the afforestation works on Palandöken Mountain on site.
