Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) held the “2020-2021 Winter Preparation Meeting” within the scope of combating winter conditions. In the meeting held at the Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), preparations throughout Istanbul were discussed. Unlike the meetings in the previous years, the measures taken in the pandemic were also shared. This year, 1.351 vehicles and 7 thousand personnel will be employed in the winter operations of IMM.

In the two-day meetings hosted by AKOM, the final points reached in the preparations for a smooth winter in Istanbul were evaluated. On the first day of the meetings, IMM Directorates and affiliates, and on the second day, 39 district municipalities came together and held a meeting to combat this year's winter.

IMM EVALUATED ITS PREPARATIONS IN FULL STAFF

İSKİ, İETT General Directorate, İBB Road Maintenance and Infrastructure Coord. Department, IMM Department of Fire Brigade, IMM Department of Environmental Protection and Control, IMM Support Services Department, IMM Transportation Department, IMM Rail System Department, IMM Science Affairs Department, IMM Information Technology Department, IMM Social Services Department , İBB Police Department, related İBB affiliates and other private sector stakeholders of the city.

SNOW FIGHTING CAPACITY HAS BEEN DETERMINED

Within the scope of the work carried out by IMM in winter conditions, this year 1.351 vehicles, construction equipment and 7 thousand 31 personnel will work. Towing and rescue vehicles will be kept ready on the main artery and ring roads, and possible traffic accidents and staying on the road will be responded quickly by the teams. Village roads will be kept open with tractors with curing apparatus that will be given to the control of headmen. This year's fighting capacity was determined as follows;

THE PANDEM IS CONSIDERED

In the negotiations, it was decided to assist the filming teams working on the field in the pandemic in case of disruptions in their transportation due to adverse weather conditions. District municipalities were asked to show sensitivity at the point of support for feeding stray animals. Studies will be carried out by IMM Veterinary Services Directorate teams for the feeding and treatment of stray animals.

MOBILE BUFFERS WILL STAND BY DRIVERS AGAIN

IMM will continue to provide hot drink, soup and water service to drivers waiting in traffic in heavy snowfalls, mobile kiosks and at critical points and roads.

Increasing the importance and orientation of public transportation, winter tire application, weather warnings, etc. Citizens will be informed about the issues through the media.

OPERATIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED BY AKOM

Before the expected adverse weather conditions, relevant IMM units and representatives of institutions will meet at AKOM and coordination will be provided here. The teams will carry out their work in line with the messages received from BEUS (Ice Early Warning System) established at 60 points across Istanbul. The tracking and direction of the teams will be provided through the vehicle tracking system.

Homeless citizens living on the street will be hosted in IMM facilities prepared for the homeless after being gathered by police teams and undergoing health checks.
