Containers are placed in the areas where waste is generated at the airport in 5 different categories: paper-cardboard, packaging, glass, organic and domestic, and the waste is separated at its source in these areas. The wastes collected by the waste collection vehicles suitable for the type of waste are separated in the Solid Waste Facility and separated to be sent to recovery and storage. With the Artwist Project, we created a total of 100 artworks from 39 tons of waste generated from the airport construction through upcycling. We were entitled to receive LEED Gold certification by the American Green Building Council, and thus Istanbul Airport main terminal building was registered as the world's largest LEED certified building.
