Izmir Metropolitan Municipality responded positively to the request of the Izmir Medical Chamber to build a monument for healthcare workers who lost their lives due to the coronavirus epidemic. Visiting the İzmir Medical Chamber, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu said, “It is important to tell the next generations how the struggle was fought in the epidemic by building a monument that symbolizes the suffering and the work done with devotion”.

We want a park to be built for healthcare professionals who try to produce health services by risking their lives. Again, we have a request to build a monument that tells about the process, the suffering, the lost healthcare professionals and our citizens. We hope that an arrangement suitable for the memory of healthcare professionals will be implemented. " Stating that if such a study is carried out, it will be a morale for healthcare professionals, Lütfi Çamlı thanked the Metropolitan Municipality for their support to healthcare professionals during the pandemic process.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu also reminded that many health workers lost their lives due to the coronavirus and said, “You are doing your job with great devotion. Many healthcare professionals did not go to their homes during this period and remained away from their families. They did this to protect the people around them. They voluntarily self-isolated. We will do our best for you," he said. The recommendation of the Chamber of Physicians, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Tunç SoyerÖzuslu said, “It is important to build such a monument and tell future generations how to fight against such an epidemic. We need to explain what pain the healthcare professionals have experienced and how they sacrificed. This study will be very meaningful in terms of revealing what you have done for public health. Our President has a clear will on this issue," he said.

"We received support from local governments"

Speaking again, Çamlı said, “During this period, we reached from personal protective equipment to materials such as masks and visors with great difficulty. We received significant support from local governments, especially from Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and district municipalities. "The transportation and parking services provided free of charge by the Metropolitan Municipality have been very meaningful for us, too," he said. At the end of the visit, Mustafa Özuslu gave a plaque to Lütfi Çamlı for the work of the healthcare personnel.
